rantville Police Chief Doug Jordan was suspended without pay for one calendar week at Mondays city council meeting. The reason for Jordans suspension was that he violated a policy given by City Manager Johnny Williams.
I require all my employees to inform me of anything that is not routine in nature, Williams said. A trip to Arizona and an article in the paper that was not discussed with me or the police committee is not routine.
Recently, Jordan traveled to Arizona to meet with Americas Toughest Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. Following their meeting, Jordan expressed his hopes to establish Grantvilles own drug team. He also planned to have some of his officers travel to Arizona for training.
During his comments at the council meeting, Council member Johnny Cooks shared his lack of support for Jordans actions and plans.
I was not very pleased by it, he said. I was not in support of it. I am not in support of this kind of news by police officers representing the Grantville uniform without the council or city managers approval.

How can a bunch of good ole boys disapprove of Arapaio?
I think it’s rain. He might have just come in from a thunderstorm... Looks like he pretty pissed at the city manager. About to break off the rail on the desk/podium and beat him with it.
Living in Newnan, I am shocked there is a south of Newnan ping!
There is a lot of variation in city government and relative power between the council, mayor and the city manager. And often times the conflict arises around the police chief.
This little town probably has a weak mayor system.
Don’t know, and not sure that’s the case.
I’m from Grantville and this kangaroo court of a city council bounces police chiefs out of town on an annual basis. I can’t believe the poor chief has voluntarily stayed for so long. I’m not proud of my city council.
Yep, we've got it all here on Free Republic. Consider yourself now on the official Coweta County Ping List.
(btw, I work in Newnan)
Yeah, I hear you. I’m down in Alabama just a little ways down I-85.
+1.
So a town in GA is named after U. S. Grant?
I think that is where they got the name. They film Walking Dead not too far from there. When I lived there, the police dept was a tuny building with a sign that said “If we’re not here, try City Hall” and that is no lie. That was early 90’s.
I lived in Grantville from about 1974 to 1977 right next to the gas station that Mr. Plant used to own.
Jordan has to come to the realization that Georgia, and police there, are helping to run the drugs. Its Serpico time.
City Manager Johnny Williams is helping run the drugs from Afghanistan. Its quite a worldwide scheme and living in Georgia is like living on a plantation.
The just won’t clean it up. They need the drug money. Thats all.
That is why all the comments on any Georgia newspapers are on CIA lockdown. Its a sign that whole area, probably coming through Jacksonville, has a very organized network to push the drugs, especially to the blacks.
Same since Don Corleone... nothings changed. Just take a look at these people.
At 1300 people, why do you need Williams? If he’s only been there a year he sure seems like he is a dick.
Here’s my issue with the Chief....
Now...I would be damn proud to meet ole Sheriff Joe myself...but the tab for a road trip to Arizona would be a nice hit...even on the cheap....and Grantville ain’t Moreland. LOL
If the Chief wants to set up a cough...drug squad for little ole grantville....Them ole boys up in Douglas county have a badass little drug unit going. They took down an entire meth ring last year all the way back to the big cheese back in Columbia and Panama. Took it down in one day after a year of setting it up. Knowing damn good and well the DEA would f@ck them every chance they got.
DCSO’s meth squad don’t just catch the easy fish...they go after the cartel dudes. The bad ones. They ain’t scared. They ain’t in it for riches or to look boss in body armor and mp-5’s busting down Joe Potsmoker’s door...they are in it for the love of the game.
Being Douglas county ain’t 40 minutes or so up the road...Chief could save some major tax dollars there.
Hey sugar...welcome to Free Republic.
Lemme educate you about something...I’m 46 and grew up here. My dad worked for a family friend hauling fuel in a tanker by day...and running hustles on the weekend to make extra cash from the same guy . Hauling cash...stolen guns...gambling...bootleg alcohol and cigs...whatever Sleepy needed done. Hey...we’re Scot/Irish dammit. That was the 70’s. There was no illegal alien issue yet. Smuggling rings were run from the top down by locals.
Went in the USn in the mid 80’s. End of my enlistment...coulda went to Central America and made some easy tax sheltered bank working for a contractor...owned by the CIA. Only thing was...if things went liquid...bad guys went round quickly “putting out the fire”...one .22 at a time. I turned them down.
Mena happened. CIA front company owned plane full of coke crashed in the boonies...and a reporter got the word out before “The Firemen” could stop it. Bill Clinton was governor and Bush was President...and former CIA.
Then..suddenly...the border opened. The Cartels along with the DEA knocked out and replaced the locals with what is now the smoothest logistical feat ever run in history...for black market products.
Ain’t no county hick councilman got the juice to smuggle heroin from the sandbox. The world drug business is run by the CIA...the Russian mob...and the cartels....which in turn has been used to build the huge ass police state about to be turned on the very conservatives that cheered the War on Drugs from the get go. Hope they enjoy their cake.
Have a nice day sugar.
Supposedly he was in AZ on his own dime.
And great idea.
Holy cow, I just read your follow on post.
Whoa
We’re wondering why we need any of them at this point. Looks like the mayor knows which way the wind is blowing and is pulling out all the stops to support the Police Chief now. I saw him even comment on Sheriff Joe’s Facebook page.
I can only hope that these ‘recall’ murmurings gather some momentum. Otherwise, we’re stuck with the offending two councilmen for the rest of their term which is at least another year.
My friend thought his suspension was a ‘race’ issue but the drug connection thing is pretty enlightening as well.
