The Syrian government said Monday that it backed a Russian proposal calling for Damascus to hand over its arsenal of chemical weapons to international authorities in a bid to avoid a U.S. attack.
We, for the sake of protecting our people and children and country and due to our trust in the Russian efforts, will cooperate fully with Russia in this regard so as to take away the excuses of this aggression, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said in a statement.
Russia has been a staunch ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
There was no immediate U.S. response to the Russian-Syrian plan, which came on a day of fast-moving developments in the Syria crisis.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking in Moscow, floated the proposal that Syria place its international chemical stockpile under international supervision.

What, no unicorns?
Would you prefer Obama lobbing missiles and possibly drawing the Russians into a war?
I like the way the narrative is changing. This morning Syria gave props to Russia for proposing this.
Now according to the MSM it’s all but a done deal.
And tomorrow night Obama will take credit for it and by Wednesday morning, he will be up for Noth Nobel Prize.
Russians play chess, the Obama administration plays checkers. This is a very shrewd move by Putin. It basically takes away any justification, as contested as it is, for Obama to order any punitive strikes. Putin is a cunning modern autocrat. Our leadership, such as it can be called, is amateur hour.
Hey hey hey!
I’m not a conspiracy theory type.
But!
Someone is behind this. Someone that has cajones and he is not afraid of using them. Someone that will let it all hang out. Someone that is hard and determined.
Yes.
Carlos Danger!
exactly what iv'e been thinking for the last hour. you can probably throw Kerry and maybe even Hillery in there for that prize.
Kerry this morning gave the Syrians one week to give up their chemical weapons. They just said yes. Either he is the dumbest Secretary of State the country has ever had or it was a clever ploy to allow Obama to step back and avoid a humiliating defeat in Congress. So much for the poison gas charade. Very doubtful that the US will directly attack Syria. However the Administration will try to achieve a regime change. It is the only way to deny Iran its forward short range ballistic missile bases in Syria and achieve a strategic gain. Israel cannot atack Iran’s nuclear facilities with impunty as long as those missile batteries remain in place. Obama and Kerry are of their depth.
Naw, it will be Vlad who gets the Nobel PP - the tide is turning away from America & the Usurper in Chief.
Who's to tell what comprises the Syrian arsenal, who's to tell what Syria has not hidden away, who's to tell any aspect of what two allied, militant anti-Western countries claim they're going to do will do in an effort to mollify the World that the danger of poison gas warfare in the Middle East is now a thing of the past? What are the mechanisms to insure all of this will come to pass?
Unless there's some sort of verification, I can't see how anyone is simply going to take the word of a ruthless dictator whose killed his own citizens and an ardent Cold War warrior itching to show up its now decrepit, age old arch foe?
Kerry said it’s impossible for Assad to comply. The Saudis want him gone. it’s about the pipeline.
You would rather risk starting WWIII not knowing who used the chemical weapons? So what if Muslims are using chemical weapons to kill Muslims? Let Allah sort it out. It’s not our problem.
I did read that Carlos is looking for a ad/campaign manager. You might want to heed his call.
Your comment seems to be in response to some other issue or perhaps you failed the grasp what it was I was attempting to convey.
