For nearly 30 years, the husband-and-wife team of Don Wade and Roma entertained and informed WLS-AM (890) listeners with a longevity unique in Chicago radio history.
But on Sunday night, the stations website shared the sad news from Roma Wade that my hero, my best friend, my soulmate had passed away in my loving arms.
By 10 p.m., 10,000 well-wishers had sent emails to Roma Wade via the getwelldon@gmail.com email address on the WLS-AM (890) website, said the stations program manager, Tracy Slutzkin.
Mr. Wade, 72, died Friday morning in Florida following a nearly yearlong battle with brain cancer. His condition prompted the couple to step down from their popular morning talk radio show in December to focus on his health.
It was Don Wade who asked Charlie Gibson about ACORN and the scandal and Charlie didn’t know a thing about it! Charlie said ‘maybe we should leave it to the cables’. Needless to say, Charlie was no longer allowed on Don’s show by his bosses!

WLS is replaying that interview right now.
Ooops...should have gone a little deeper into the article.I guess it’s not.
Yep, they had the #1 AM show bar none in Chicago. Why can’t we elect conservatives in this state?
Today is a very sad day for me. We lived outside the US for many years, and when we came home to stay, I found Don and Roma on WLS. What a patriot! He was always prepared, knowledgeable, and on 9/11 the voice of calm getting us through the day even while he and Roma were wondering if their daughter Heather was still alive since she lived quite near there. Last September they were so excited about attending Heather’s wedding, and we never dreamed that would be the last we would hear them. Don suffered a seizure the day before, didn’t tell Heather until later, and then the cancer was found. Add this to the fact that the Saturday morning host Jake Harford died suddenly of heart attack recently. My mornings are forever different now.
Spot on. The morning lost a lot when Don and Roma left, and Jake went home so unexpectedly. A sad day for Roma and for commonsense Patriots everywhere, but, a rockin’ great radio day in heaven! We love you Roma, Don is at peace.
That’s John Kass and Lauren Cohn. Don and Roma had the 5-9 mornng show for many years.
What’s the difference in Talk radio show hosts ?
One of the tools he used in his research was this website I don’t know if they ever referenced it or not and Robinson would know if they were contributers. While WLS is still a must at my listening post. It is not the same. I’ve been banging away about “The Zimmerman Effect” if they were still on the air I would not have to.
They’d be up the media and Obama’s butt exposing the krap they pulled off on misguiding blacks into thinking Trayvon was a “victim”. And maybe a couple of folks would still be alive. Least not think of naming some planetoid after him ,or some black highschool drillteam spelling out his name at a collegiate football game, maybe.
I was thinking of him last week when I flipped on the radio and listened to the “temp” hosts in his absence. I will miss him.
I loved it when Don would read something about the White House, some new scandal, and he would always end it in an outraged voice with “who are these people in the White House? Who are these people!”
I first heard about 9/11 from Don and Roma. I was driving my son to school and he was imitating a wolf eating some animal and then a few minutes later he had horror in his voice and I knew something awful was going on.
