Tattoo regret becomes the latest trend

A drunken night out in Sydney's Kings Cross left Rachel Vance with a tattoo on her arm - two tiny stars and a spade. The experience cost her $100 and she regretted it instantly.

Louise Smith got five tattoos at different stages throughout her twenties. One was a butterfly, another commemorated a friend's death and the rest just seemed like a good idea at the time. Until now.

Both women are part of an emerging trend where people are paying upwards of $100 a pop per session of laser treatment to remove tattoos. Oh, and apparently it hurts like hell.

"I got them done when I was very young and definitely believed that I would love them forever and would never regret them. I didn't think about my future and how I might change my view on my tattoos as I matured," Louise Smith said.

According to Sue Salmon of the Wollongong Tattoo Removal Service in New South Wales, the majority of their increasing numbers of clients are young women between 25 and 40.

"Their reasons vary. Anything from wanting to start a career in the army and relationships they've ended, to 'I'm not that person anymore'. Probably about 5 per cent are getting them removed to replace with a new one," Ms Salmon said.

Here's how tattoo removal works. The laser shatters the ink of the tattoo and the body's lymphatic system gradually removes it from the body. Apparently there is also an option to simply fade a tattoo if the person would prefer it.

Tatoos, what a great business to be in....charge them to put it on, charge them even more to take it back off.

I do not get the tattoo thing and it’s a real turnoff.

I did meet a chick who was so smoking hot and the best sense of humor. Almost went for it but, I slept on it and the next day I was over her.

But tatoos allow you to express your individuality just like everybody else

Would be hilarious to see a tattoo parlor right next to a tattoo lazer removal place..surely this must exist somewhere in the world ;)

Tattoos: Whoring out your body and skin for someone to practice their drawing skills on, and then paying them for it.

When I found out that 99 percent of the people in
prison have tattoos. I decided if I got one I could
end up in prison.

Besides I already have too many identifying marks/scars.

On Mars Maybe, where the Hell have they been?

Hell, My own Father has the classic "Got Drunk One night fresh out of Basic Training in San Diego and Woke Up with a Tattoo with his Girlfriends name on it" Story.

Fortunately for him, he wound up marrying her so it was all good.

Why not a "reverse tattoo," where instead of ink they use a bleaching compound?

My wife informed my son that if he ever got a tattoo she would remove it herself ... with a belt sander!

“I didn’t think about my future and how I might change my view on my tattoos as I matured,” Louise Smith said.

She sounds pretty sharp. I like mine. No regrets at all.

Personally, I don't get it...

Why would you put something permanently on your body for the rest of your life...especially in a place where it cannot be covered up...

I can't wait to see that lower middle of the back tramp stamp when they're in their 70's, walking down the aisle of the assisted living center with an IV on that mobile stand and the back of their nightgown open...........

And as for that breast tattoo? Good luck reading that..it gives new meaning to the term "long hand writing"......LOL!

I saw the thread about a waiting period for tats.
They probably should have to pass a breathalizer too.

Of course that would cut business by half...

I have a son who has tattoos and thinks they’re really cool. He used to beam with pride whenever he got a new one. We haven’t spoken in a long time.
