Contradicting President Obamas assertion, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said this morning on This Week that the president does not have the authority to order a military strike on Syria without Congressional approval.
I dont think he has the authority, Cruz told ABCs George Stephanopoulos.
It would be contrary to the Constitution, he added later, when Stephanopoulos asked him if acting without Congressional approval would be an impeachable offense, as some republicans have suggested.
President Obama said last month that while he was in favor of a military strike on Syria and believed he could order one without Congressional authorization, he would seek the approval of Congress before he ordered military strikes against the Middle Eastern nation for its alleged use of chemical weapons last month that the United States says killed close to 1,500 people, including more than 400 children.
The president will address the American people Tuesday night in a nationally televised addressed. The day before, hell sit down for interviews with the countrys five major networks and PBS.
An unofficial tally by ABC News suggest that a resolution to strike Syria would fail in the House of Representatives and a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll found that nearly 6 in 10 Americans opposed a unilateral U.S strike on Syria.

Judge Napolitano laid it out on FOX the other day. It takes an actual attack on us, an imminent attack on us, an attack on an ally that we have treaty/agreement with, or another nation under hostile attack that asks our assistance. None of the four tests have been fulfilled.
If he invites Impeachment now, the Senate and the Media will protect him and the Dims will gain seats in 2014. If he doesn’t get Impeached now, we may not have a country in 2014.
The NEA and the Media have done a outstanding job dumbing down the Electorate.
Getting the Congress approval is a Republican thing. Bush 41 did for the Gulf War AND Bush 43 did for Afghanistan AND Iraq. Clinton didn’t for Kosovo and Obama didn’t for Libya. Republicans follow the Constitution, Democrats do NOT.
Cruz better be careful.
Anyone who’s seen the James Bond movie Moonraker knows what Im talking about.
God bless and protect Sen Cruz!
I hope President Cruz puts the judge on the Supreme Court!
I’m with you 100%
Ted Cruz is under the silly impression that the rule of law still holds meaning in this country.
POSOTUS (I like it!) POSOTUS has carte blanche. “We the people” are screwed (see my tagline) - no pitchforks, no torches, no tar, no feathers, no protests, no revolution, the country is going down the drain and there isn’t anything we can do about it because no one will listen to us. I betcha if everyone in the US found their way to the WH, millions and millions of people in the street, I bet the media would say there were a couple hundred people out there, even the media is against us and our country. I have never ever seen anything like this, ever. It is absolutely unnerving.
Who's going to impeach him? Not the dems, not the republicans and as for "we the people" no one cares what we want. IRS out of control, NSA out of control, Fast & Furious, Benghazi, etc etc etc etc. He should have been thrown out of office by now but with the help of dems and repubs AND the press, the asshat in chief is till there, NO ONE is going to start impeachment proceedings, no one dares start impeachment proceedings if they know what's good for them, HUSSEIN has his criminal posse out there bribing, intimidating, threatening, killing, we are now a dictatorship and a lot of people still don't see it.
It wouldn't surprise me if one or more judges resign in the last year of Zer0's reign.
He will then be able to appoint more MARXISTS judges. And they WILL be approved.
After that, it's over for the U.S. Done, end of story.
Add “-—Obama didn’t for Libya-—” to the list of particulars on the list of impeachable actions that will be required to start Obamuzzie’s impeachment. Qdaffy hadn’t attacked the US and the Kenyan didn’t bother to claim he did. As noted above Congress must decide when to start a war without provocation.
Not if we take back the senate. LBJ lost both Fortas elevation and Thornbury nomination when he was a lame duck.
He didn't ask for permission to invade Grenada and notified Congress only after the invasion had begun.
He didn't ask for permission to sell arms to Iran.
The Constitution is nothing more than toilet paper to Obama and the Democrats.
apologies for the spelling errors ...
You would think that in our country, which has existed more than 200 years, the Constitutional issue of whether or not a President can invade another country without the consent of the people (Congress) would’ve been resolved by now....
