Twenty years ago an old fellow in my small CT town told the tax collector he wasn’t paying his property tax and he was armed. He holed up in his house and wouldn’t come out. The town ignored him and made no effort to interfere with the few friends and family members who brought him groceries.

6-7 months later he surrendered, the house was sold, taxes paid and he moved in with relatives. No one hurt.

Better end to this story, except an even better end would be that he didn’t lose his house because of taxes.

A sign of sane adult local law enforcement.

This was once how things were done. Our local law enforcement is still like that. The local officer (1) here has been at it for almost 30 years. He does a good job of balancing sanity and order with the law.

Today? 9000 Law Enfarcement ossifers, lock down the entire county, search house-to-house, and call in a dozen M-1 Abrams tanks, along without 30-40 armored support vehicles.
