As of last year (when I visited the Memorial) the diesel oil was still leaking and the smell was noticeable. Very haunting. There is still an enormous amount of oil in the rusting shell of the Arizonia. Environmentalists are concerned that at some point the rusting hull of the ship will not be able to contain it and a massive oil spill will result, but even they are not proposing to disturb the Memorial.

Thanks for telling me because it has been some years since I was there.
The other example of that attack that gets me are where the bullets/ordinance hit the outside walls of buildings on the air base. Those were left there as a reminder.
But, let’s not forget it really wasn’t an attack on us as the Japanese didn’t put boots on the ground except the ones who crashed in their airplanes and that doesn’t count. /s
