A long time ago. Deb , people over here are in denial that Obama is a muslim. If they acknowledged that he was, they would have to do something, make a decision that may be unpleasant. I agree with you about the Saudis.
They are so powerful that there is virtually no criticism of them, even on FR. They have become so wealthy and influential since the oil price spike in 1973 that most everyone fears them.
After sixteen Saudis knocked down the World Trade Centre in 2001 we should have expropriated their oil fields, and distributed the revenue per capita to the world. Instead, we knocked over the secular strongman next door who was serving as a buttress against Shia Iran.
Why should we honor the title of the descendants of Ibn Saud to a quarter of the world's oil? I expressed this on FR during the 2008 financial crisis as a fix and was accused of advocating empire.
