WaPo fact check: No Pinocchios for “I didn’t set the red line” (Kessler Folds Under Pressure)

Call this a triumph of nuance over plain speaking, which sounds like a good description of standard operational diplo-speak, too. The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler — who used to work the diplomatic beat — decided to fact-check Barack Obama’s assertion this week that “I didn’t set the red line” on Syria’s use of chemical weapons, but that the world did. Kessler doesn’t assign Obama any Pinocchios for this dodge, but he doesn’t let the President off the hook, either.

Well who the heck else said it??? It wasn't the Germans, the British, the French, the Russians,UN or NATO. OLiar was the only one going on about any "red line" nonsense. The media parodies & discredits itself yet again.

Nobody said he INVENTED the red line. What he did was give the very strong impression that if Syria crossed the red line, he would come down hard on them.

I liked this comment from the link:

Mr. Kessler, I am not surprised that you have chosen to assign "No Rating" to Mr. Obama's red line statement. After all...if the President of the United States can continue to do his job each day with zero credibility, why shouldn't you?

At the WAPO there were the usual sycophants but surprisingly most of the commenters including libs who couldn’t and didn’t buy this bullshit. For some libs the Syria situation is a bridge too far for them.

The main argument for the U.S. to attack Syria in some meaningless, ineffectual, untimely gesture, was that not doing so would undermine U.S. credibility after Obama’s “red line” statement.

If Obama now says he never “set the red line”, there is NO sound reason to attack Syria. Congress should find it easier to vote “NO”. Obama’s claim is mendacious, cynical, and feckless — and I’ll take it.

Just another media gerbil having to explain to us peons what it was Obama really meant to say:

If he had used Kerry’s language, it would not have been as much of an issue: “The line I drew is the same one that the world has had for nearly 100 years.” Or something like that.

So, we should never take Obama at his word.

We must wait for the gerbils to explain what Obama really meant to say to us.

On national TV the other day Kerry was calling the red line “Obama’s Red Line”. He seem clear to me.
