“I just don’t believe that if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,” one top aide to the Republican leadership told me. Should the full Senate vote to approve an attack on Syria — as still appears somewhat likely — the battle would shift to the House. “An attempt would be made to let the whole thing go away. I don’t think it would be done to give the GOP any extra leverage in debt-ceiling or budget negotiations — Obama isn’t the grateful type — but simply because the weakness it would demonstrate wouldn’t be good for the country,” the aide told me.

Maybe I’m missing something.

What exactly is showing weakness by having a congressional vote on an issue?

Isn’t the whole point of Congress that they vote on issues, pass legislation, etc?

Sometimes legislation is voted down. Sometimes resolutions do not pass. It’s all part of the process, isn’t it?

What am I missing?

The shameless, America-hating rats would be chomping at the bit to humiliate a Republican president.
The House MUST vote, or get rid of the spineless leadership immediately. GOP reps must DEMAND a vote.

He played the vote to put the burden on the House, so pick up the burden and vote. He will NEVER appreciate a face saving move by the GOP so all the other important things coming up are still going to be contentious.

Well the British Parliament didn’t seem to be too worried about how it would look.

BHO is and has been a daily humiliation to the USA since the day he took office what else would be new?

“...if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,...”

In that case, we should melt the Representatives’ phone lines and DEMAND a public vote.

This clown wants to start a war, and he should be held publicly accountable for it.

Lives are at stake.

Too effing bad if his poor little ego gets bruised.

That's a nonsensical view. Objecting to wars that are against the American interest isn't weakness; it's common sense.

If a Republican were President, the Democrats would not miss the opportunity to humiliate him, if given a chance.

well...the (Boehmer's) chickens have come home to roost, If Speaker *snicker*...
Boehmer can't get a (simple/non-binding) resolution in the House...
He shall be viewed as truly powerless to guide/shepherd articles/laws thru Congress...
and should resign..but, unfortunately he's NOT that kind of (honorable) person.

“I just don’t believe that if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,”.......

Does the Congress use and follow Robert's Rules of Order? If so, I'd call for the “question” (meaning debate is over and a vote MUST be taken) thus FORCING the vote to take place. Nothing I would like better than to see odumbo humiliated and on his knees. He has bowed to too many other world leaders and humiliated the U.S., ignored our Constitution too many times, lied to us, caused one ambassador plus others to die for his coniving, restricted our military to the point the no longer can fight, ignored or distrspected our allies, etc. (I could keep going). He needs to be humiliated BIG TIME, then dumped overboard.

*******
Yet Obama has, and increasingly continues to, humiliate the House by circumventing it at every turn through his executive orders and other tactics. Obama has no respect whatsoever for the congress.

Weakness isn’t good, which is why we need to show the world we are more than bambam.

More assinine thinking courtesy of the RINO leadership.

As if the whole world will not know what it means and convey the same message anyway. Most of our allies would be heartened by the GOP Huuse standing up to this nonsense from Obama and his lackeys, and our enemies would also take note, realizing that there is still some spine left in the US political system.

But not the RINOs in leadership.

They need to go...long since.

Obama is not the type of person who is a good loser. I think that the only reason that Obama is in this mess is because he was having a hissy fit over the Snowden affair.

Are they kidding? Are they nuts? It’s high time he was HUMILIATED!!!! Humiliate the SOB, show the world what an idiot we have for a president. What’s to lose? What difference does it make? His credibility is already shot.
Geeze - this whole thing makes me SICK.

Humiliate this buffoon in front of the nation and the world, just like he has humiliated America and Americans. The list is long, but start with his humiliating GM dealerships whom he put out of business - not because of a bankruptcy judge, but because the were Republicans.
