House Might Not Vote on Obama’s Syria Resolution
National Review ^ | 9-6-13 | John Fund

Posted on 09/06/2013 8:23:58 AM PDT by quimby

Congressional aides in both parties tell me that the chances of President Obama winning House approval for military action in Syria are so bad they actually doubt the House would ultimately vote on it if failure seemed certain.

Two new whip counts of House members by ABC News and the liberal Firedoglake web site show a majority of House members firmly or leaning against intervention. The Washington Post’s more conservative count stands at 204 “no” votes, only 13 short of the majority needed to kill the president’s request.

If a Republican were President, the Democrats would not miss the opportunity to humiliate him, if given a chance.

I’m betting that Obama will be back in DC next week spreading Saudi cash and he’ll get his war.

Saudi cash is not terribly useful in a charred, radioactive world.

“I just don’t believe that if defeat is certain, the House leadership will
want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a
public vote,” one top aide to the Republican leadership told me.
well...the (Boehmer's) chickens have come home to roost, If Speaker *snicker*...
Boehmer can't get a (simple/non-binding) resolution in the House...
He shall be viewed as truly powerless to guide/shepherd articles/laws thru Congress...
and should resign..but, unfortunately he's NOT that kind of (honorable) person.

I think boner should have refused to vote to begin with. He should have said “If he believes he has the authority to act without congress’ approval, let him do it. Then congress will discuss his actions.”

“I just don’t believe that if defeat is certain, the House leadership will want to see a president utterly humiliated on the House floor in a public vote,”.......

Does the Congress use and follow Robert's Rules of Order? If so, I'd call for the “question” (meaning debate is over and a vote MUST be taken) thus FORCING the vote to take place. Nothing I would like better than to see odumbo humiliated and on his knees. He has bowed to too many other world leaders and humiliated the U.S., ignored our Constitution too many times, lied to us, caused one ambassador plus others to die for his coniving, restricted our military to the point the no longer can fight, ignored or distrspected our allies, etc. (I could keep going). He needs to be humiliated BIG TIME, then dumped overboard.

Any Republican who doesn’t have the testicular fortitude to vote on this matter should be replaced in next year’s primary.

Personally, I don't believe there will BE a 'next year's primary'.

As I said, they should have annouced they weren’t going to vote in the beginning. But for boner to take this nation to war just to cover his buddy is criminal. It’ll be even more criminal if there’s no vote and boner says obama doesn’t need authorization from congress. If that happens it will be time to do something.

As always the kenyan wants it both ways. He wants to use Congress as an excuse not bomb now because the Russians called his bluff. I think he would rather blame Congress, drag the distraction out for as long as useful and then bomb Syria when tensions are lower.

They need to vote. Not voting is saying yes in the cowards way because Obama will go ahead and strike.

If they do not vote the Congress is as culpable of treason as Obama will be in helping al Qaeda when he strikes.

Given that almost the entire rest of the world and about 99% of U.S. voters oppose the insanity of the U.S. violently injecting itself in a civil war between two Muslim factions in a country in which neither the U.S. nor the rest of the world has much strategic interest, going to Congress was simply a ploy for Obama to try to save face, since Obama knew Congress would never approve this. Now Obama can say: “Not my fault. I WANTED to bomb Syria, but Congress won’t let me. It’s THEIR fault. I’m blameless. As usual. Because I’m perfect and never make mistakes. Ever.”

I want to know who is for and who is against.....names, I want names.

Names won't mean anything. Once the vote tally is known, swaps will be made so that members of either party will be permitted to vote in the way that doesn't hurt their reelection, regardless of how they personally stand on the issue.

What am I missing?

You are missing Congress saying yes in the cowards way. You are missing Bohner committing the same treason Obama will when he strikes and helps our enemies al Quaeda take over Syria.

IN all actuality this could be a good thing in light of Putin’s comments/threats.

If the House votes NO, Obama gets to hide behind that vote and say “Well I stood up to Russia and would have gone ahead with the attack but the Congress is too scared and won’t let me”.

By not voting it puts the ball directly in Obama’s hands and makes him be the one to pull the plug and back down in front of the world.

*******
Yet Obama has, and increasingly continues to, humiliate the House by circumventing it at every turn through his executive orders and other tactics. Obama has no respect whatsoever for the congress.

I agree. No vote at all is permission for him to use our military as his political tool in Syria.
