House Might Not Vote on Obama’s Syria Resolution
National Review ^ | 9-6-13 | John Fund

Posted on 09/06/2013 8:23:58 AM PDT by quimby

Congressional aides in both parties tell me that the chances of President Obama winning House approval for military action in Syria are so bad they actually doubt the House would ultimately vote on it if failure seemed certain.

Two new whip counts of House members by ABC News and the liberal Firedoglake web site show a majority of House members firmly or leaning against intervention. The Washington Post’s more conservative count stands at 204 “no” votes, only 13 short of the majority needed to kill the president’s request.

Weasels, and typical of the way Congress has punted its fundamental responsibilities over the last hundred years.

The lack of a vote could be interpreted as tacit permission.

Want congress to go another way. Hold a major press conference and say that this is a major humanitarian effort and that Obama should go to the UN and plead his case.

Boehner should come right out and say it is for the children. Bring out the grand kids as props.

Hold a vote (quickly), humiliate the friggin' Commie, repudiate him so thoroughly that the momentum would carry through to a vote to DEFUND OBAMACARE!

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

No, he can order an attack or strike. He is not declaring war and that is the difference. The talking idiots refer to this as going to war but it is not in the technical sense of the term. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was not preceded with a declaration of war on us and if FDR had not gone to congress to ask for a formal war declaration we would not have been at war, just attacked. He could have ordered a counter attack (that was impossible) and not been officially at war. Bush and Reagan, others before him have ordered small incursions that did not require congressional approval and no declaration of war. The fact that in some cases the president has gone to congress for approval was to solidify public and very honestly, congressional support for the actions.

He’s a moron, a dictator, all of the above, but as CinC he can order limited actions without congress.

It sounds like they are giving obama room to carry out an attack on his own. He can say he had to act when congress couldn’t get its act together and vote on something so important. If congress voted no obama would have to defy them to attack Syria. It seems cowardly to me.

Yup. If they don’t vote, it’s a green light for bam-bam.

Soo, let me get this straight, the American people get a vote, but only if they intend to agree with the DNC/RNC-e?

Why are Reps Steve Stockman (R-TX), Steve King (R-IA) and so many other conservatives "undecided" on this?

“Boehner wants (obviously) to prevent a full-blown regime crisis.”

A vote puts anyone voting “Yes” in the almost immediate position of being primaried, including Republicans.

We SHOULD be calling Obama and those following him on the carpet by voting. We will never have a better chance to get rid of some of his Democrat sycophants in the House than right now.

If I had my wish, they would vote it down by a wide margin while Obama was still in the middle of the G20.

I have an novel idea: Why doesn’t everyone vote their conscience or follow the conscience of the people who are calling in, and let the chips fall where they may?

Getting all involved in political ramifications is what screws this nation up. Democracy wasn’t meant to create the opposite of what the people want.

We could have a less complicated and more responsible world if people would just do the right thing.

If bonehead does not have the votes to do what obastard wants to do he will cancel the vote. WHY?

So obastard can go ahead and do what he wants to do anyway and be in the clear because congress did not rule against him. No vote, no defiance. obastard is not asking for permission he is demanding agreement.

So they’d use procedure and just not bring it up? Seems like he’d be humiliated anyway.

Delicious ! Were this to happen, I would giggle randomly.

I never thought they would. Pretty soon, Obama is going to distance himself from himself and this will all be a McCain, Boehner idea and Obama was just a victim..
