Why back down?
Convince the world you are going to attack Syria and attack Iran instead.
Everybody, but Russia, wants it, and the case for doing it is so clear that nobody disputes it.
If the US claims it got the Sarin from Iran, Russian can’t counter claim that they didn’t, because the only other place it could have come from is Russia.
Obama then looks like he slow played Putin, and everybody in the world, save Russia and the Norks, is on board with the op.
Too bad Valerie Jarrett is likely working for Iran or this would come off nicely. Huma likely is too.

Putin is going to send some sophisticated hareware.
It takes time to set up the systems and train the Syrians.
If Obama ever decides to make the strike on Syria, there would be excellent opportunity to take out any new systems that Putin provides, BEFORE they become an established threat.
Wow, who knew obama (plus advisors) were THIS stupid? If he’d bombed immediately, in August, all Putin would say is, “don’t do that again or else.”
Instead, obama broadcasts his notions and Putin gets a free move, saying, “don’t do that or else!”
I still think that going to Congress is, for obama, the lesser of two evils, and he doesn’t really want to bomb Syria. I think he’s hoping the approval won’t be there and then he’s off the hook, he can say he did things by the book, unlike Boosh. His leftist base will forgive him, and he won’t be tarnished in their eyes for acting like Boosh. Whereas if he’d gone ahead and bombed, with or without approval, so many bad outcomes are possible and so few good ones. The Syrians could even make up some false atrocity outcomes.
And anyway, he can always let loose another squirrel. If I’m right, expect a squirrel in a few days. The media will promptly pivot to some new story. A new flesh-eating bacteria, a presidential funeral, a killer hurricane, or a terror attack requiring another trimming of our liberty.
Checkmate, Obama.
Back down because I doubt most Americans want ANY war. We are spent, monetarily and psychologically. There is no good reason to be over there.
Attack Iran, not Syria, and the game changes completely.

Putin really shouldn’t try engaging Obama in a battle of wits. It’s not nice to attack the unarmed.
