Six British soldiers in town for a rugby match against the NYPD have been arrested for allegedly beating up and robbing an off-duty American police officer in New York City.
Sky News reports the Royal Regiment of Scotland soldiers were at a bar in Manhattan Friday when the police officer began chatting with a woman who was with the troops. The BBC reports the soldiers are Fijan nationals serving in the 1st Scots Guard.

It says something about a nation when six tourists can come there and feel free to beat up a local cop.
I'm not sure what, but it can't be good.

Hitting on a woman with a group of Polynesian men (he was lucky they were from Fiji, Samoans would probably have killed him) serving in a Scots regiment was fairly suicidal. Double whammy. That doesn’t condone the beating but it was practically a Darwin Award winning idea.

He was off-duty, not in uniform, and decided to start a conversation with a woman at a bar.
She apparently was not involved with any of them, she had apparently just encountered them minutes earlier.
He probably expected these louts to behave like human beings and not like mindless criminal savages.

If his day job wasn't being a cop - and he was a longshoreman or an accountant instead - and you read about an American citizen being beaten and robbed by a gang of six foreigners, in his own hometown, for the offense of making conversation with a girl at a bar, you would be outraged.
But, because of his job description, your reaction is completely different and, frankly, ridiculous.
I'm not the predictable one.

Victim? NY Cops dont play the victim which is probably why he got his butt whipped.
He probably shoulda minded his manners.

Not sure how much experience all of you have with our Pacific peoples, but they are generally huge and real problems when they get liquored up. I had to break up a riot between Samoan Marines and African-American Marines once and it was a bloody mess - literally.
Everybody was predictably penitent when the booze wore off.

Maybe it wasn't he who was ill-mannered.
This sounds a lot like the criticism of George Zimmermann.
"Why didn't he mind his own business?"
"It was just an ass-whuppin'! He should never have bothered Trayvon!"
Etc.
The next time there is a "White Girl Bleed a Lot" incident, will your gut reaction be: "They must have played the knockout game with that guy for a reason. He probably mouthed off to them or something."
To: wideawake
That you compare this cop to George Zimmerman is telling.
George was trying to protect his community.
This cop was trying to get laid. He messed with the wrong people and got taught a lesson. If he wasn’t a cop the NYPD wouldn’t have even cared let alone filed charges.

And for the trifecta; the soldiers were in town to play in a rugby tournament.
To: driftdiver
You sound like a man too timid to approach a woman in a bar unless you can be sure that no other man is aware of her.
What a way to live, always to live in fear of others and full of fearful speculations.
