One in five married households has at least one spouse who was born outside the United States, the Census Bureau reported Thursday.
Immigration trends have contributed to the growing number of foreign-born Americans, and the Census Bureau found 21 percent of married households in the U.S. in 2011 had at least one foreign-born spouse.
In California, Nevada, Hawaii and the District of Columbia, at least 12 percent of the married households included one American-born spouse and another foreign-born person, which the Census Bureau calls "mixed-nativity." The national average is 7.4 percent.....

most Caucasians don't even get married anymore....
the rate of marriage of Latinos is probably very high relatively...
its understandable that one out of 5 of "married households" has one foreign spouse...
The Hispanic population has everything to do with that number...
My wife was born in Colombia. I know no more patriotic American.
It’s what you believe that matters.
I never said otherwise, did I?
My wife is Chinese.
The girls from the US were too immoral when I was in college. The ones that weren’t had other cultural issues obtained from feminist assumptions about relationships. Many didn’t want children. Others assumed that traditional values are passe, Most wanted a man who is a wimp except when she needs jar opened or various other things that turn men off.
My wife is intelligent (She has a PhD) hard working, loving, fun to be with and values the home and family more than her career or handbag budget.
Having talked to a lot men with Asian wives over the years it is a pretty common observation. Let the Sandra Flukes screw every nameless moron. I wanted more than that. It was easier to find with an Asian wife
Why marry a used, ignorant blonde with left-wing politics when you can get so much more?
1 in 5 spouses foreign born, eh? I’d go along with that. Sometimes I think my wife is from outer space.
nailed it
The Hispanic out of wedlock birthrate is 53%.
A friend of mine married a girl from the Philippines. She is also half Vietnamese, she is so nice and so sweet..a real treasure :-)
There are a lot of foreign born Americans who were citizens from the time of birth, i.e John McCain, Ted Cruz, etc. So that number is nothing more than a statistical curiosity until it is narrowed down with a cross tab or follow-up question.
The primary driver of non-marriage is the trainwreck of the previous generation’s marriages, many of which are nasty enough to burn the kids on the idea of marriage for good.
The other driver is the legal structure that makes marriage an incredibly bad proposition for males. Getting married in the USA today for a male is all obligation, no reward - casual sex is easy enough to find, and most women these days can’t cook and have interest in bearing and raising children. If you just need someone to share the bills with a second income, get a roommate.
My husband and I do seem to find that other parents that we know and like are foreign born or a “mixed” couple. They are “old school”, like us, and their children are good people. And they have intact, nuclear families.
My wife is Indian, I didnt go looking for a foreign borne wife... it just happened.
But it has really opened my eyes to a lot of things I never would have been exposed to otherwise.
Divorces in Indian marriages are pretty much frowned upon, not that there are not problems, but they tend to try and work it out a bit more...
13 years.. happy as a clam.
But hey, at least she was raised in France! ;)
Seriously though there are some great American Wives out there, just find a nice Kansas Farm girl to settle down with.
Good for you!!!!
And your wife is a great American farm girl now, right?
No, my post wasn’t directed at you 2nd Division. Just wanted to note that stats don’t necessarily tell the whole story.
We live in Kansas City, and it is as Metro as you can get anymore.
Though take 5 Steps outside the city and it is like going back in time in some places.
