It is time for the Tea Party to become a political party
The Washington Times ^ | September 4, 2013 | Judson Phillips

Posted on 09/05/2013 8:41:40 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It is time for the Tea Party to divorce the Republican Party and start its own political party.

Nature abhors a vacuum, and the Tea Party swept into the political vacuum left by the Republican Party in 2009. There was no voice for conservatives. The GOP had surrendered to its big government wing. And because of that, the GOP had been shellacked in 2006 and 2008.

The GOP would not stand up for conservative principles and the Tea Party was born.

In 2010, the Tea Party swept the Republicans into power in the House of Representatives.

What does the Tea Party have to show for it?

For the last two and a half years, the Tea Party has watched House Speaker John Boehner raise his freshly laundered white flag of surrender time and time again.

While the Republicans come back home to tell the voters how conservative they are, the truth is quite different.

The Republican leadership has not held the line on spending. They have capitulated repeatedly on the debt ceiling. They have surrendered on taxes. They have wanted to get along on Amnesty even though it is political suicide. They have given us meaningless, symbolic votes to repeal Obamacare, while making no real effort to do so. With barely disguised contempt for the base, they have ignored the calls to defund Obamacare.

Now they are giving the conservative base the middle finger by rushing to war in Syria.....

BUT you used TEA party Correctly....when ‘originally’ formed (modern times) it was for Taxed Enough Already, hence the TEA with a given reference to Boston Harbor and the (supposed) dumping of tea off the ships....

Yes, I did, however I don't know how detail oriented you are.

This morning I am fresh, so let's examine your reply closely.

First I'll re-quote you: ...you used TEA party Correctly....when ‘originally’ formed (modern times) it was for Taxed Enough Already, hence the TEA with a given reference to Boston Harbor and the (supposed) dumping of tea off the ships....

The entire content of that sentence is correct, and true as you intend it's meaning. However there is more information there that can be examined.

The acronym TEA does stand for Taxed Enough Already. The noun "party" generally describes a group of persons gathered for entertainment or social activity. The proper noun "Party" usually describes a more formal group of people gathered or dispersed for the purpose of political philosophy and political social activity.

Recently, concerned grassroots Conservative Americans have been meeting in public First Amendment gatherings to inform the general public about unwise government tax policy and other excessive government actions. The term "TEA party" is applicable to this phase of this movement.

The movement has grown to more formal gatherings with more structure and organization, and "TEA Party" is more accurate here, noting there is more than one TEA Party.

Thus both "TEA party" and "TEA Party" are correct, but mean slightly different things.

Regarding the Boston Tea Party, the phrase references a gathering, an incident, and a political statement. Here the noun Tea indicates the commodity that was taxed as the commodity rather than the tax, and "Party" is at most a gathering, and possibly a verb denoting the destruction of the tea, which was the intent. The effectiveness or completion of the action is not discussed here.

In American revolutionary history there has never been a TEA Party or a TEA party, so your "(modern times)" is unnecessary, but none the less, true.

So how much detail do we need to observe? I do try not to post two conflicting verbs, but occasionally I forget to delete one when I rewrite a clumsy sentence.

I be aware most of the time, Ex Radio Man United States Navy, thank you for your service.

Splitting the conservative vote. What a wonderful, constructive idea.

The point is that the key political motivation for people to vote Republican now come from the Tea Party idea bag.

Ya still can't accept the Democrats and Republicans are all riding in the same limo?

They've got half the population hoodwinked and bamboozled.

It's like the masked wrestlers on TV, performing their choreographed rehearsed moves, as the audience of drooling fools applaud.

It's one big con-job concocted by super wealthy insiders and the very well connected...It's not that complex...lol

Someday even you might just figure it all out.

BTW, the only way the Tea Party or any political party to establish itself, grow or gain power is to completely isolate itself from the severe contamination of the entrenched corrupt Republican party.

This should be clear to most anyone capable of critical thought.

Simply...my views no longer line up with the GOP. They are the party of amnesty, funding Obamacare, supporting the Syrian intervention,...on and on. They basically stand for nothing. They continually nominate candidates that stand for nothing and then try to push the lesser than two evils garbage.

No thanks. I’m a conservative first. I’m not into blindly following where the leaders of the party are leading. My opinion is that the GOP is too far gone to be reformed.

By the way, the GOP is clearly not “my” party. I would choose not to be identified with losers such as Ayotte, McCain, Rubio, Priebus, Graham, Cantor, Ryan, Romney, Flake, Alexander, Corker, Snowe, McConnell, etc. I like Paul, Cruz, Palin, Lee, Amash, and a few others....but those guys are routinely crushed and pushed aside by the party.

to understand the division between the rinos and the tea party is to understand why people like barbara bush hate sarah palin. palin represents redneck america e.g. the duck dynasty. the bushes represent upper class polite society whose children attend yale and harvard. the two just don't mix.

sarah's favorite song

You two are self-defeatists. Part of the problem. Instead of trying to fix things, you just give up. I disagree with all you two said. Maybe you are clouded by living in your area and meeting idiots. Maybe you are clouded by MSM which try to hide the truth. But you bought the leftist meme hook, line and sinker.

No one doubts the corrupt character of the current group of people occupying our government.

Pretty much everyone on this forum would share your cynicism. Myself included.

Do you see the TEA party merchandising that?

No. They agitate for the opposite.

You can be even more cynical and say their leadership is no different from the current guys, that voting for TweedleDee will be no different from TweedleDum.

Fine. But that’s not what I said.

I said that people are voting for Republicans because they identify TEA party ideas with them.

You say....suckers! Tricked Ya again.

Definitely true in the case of clowns like Boner.

But not in all cases. And it isn’t the intent of the people pushing the movement. True Believers.

Will TEA party candidates win and then be corrupted? Undoubtedly.

Are some already like that and plan on coat tailing? Sure.

Doesn’t mean you ignore the truth. The current House is the result of TEA party agitation in 2010. The fact that Boner has simply used them to steer contracts to his clients simply means he needs to be pushed out...NOW.

And for the first time in a long time, there are people on the Right willing to do that.

Not Prissy Priebus. Not Linda Grahamnesty. Not Mad Jonny McShame.

But others who are willing. And aware that they are being held accountable.

I personally don’t give a damn if you want to continue supporting the corrupt Republican party and their entrenched super wealthy, well connected insiders.

I just don’t care. Be my guest.

Sadly none the so called reformers in the GOP had the guts to vote against Boehnor as speaker. He was just as big of turd then as he is now.

Talk is cheap.

Please check out a group, Convention of States. Its organizer, Michael Farris was on Huckabee's show just a few days after the release of Mark's book.

It seems legit; I've registered, but would like the opinion of others. They say they hope to have state organizations set up to petition and influence state legislators.

You may be right. We ceased being a federal republic a hundred years ago, and if the current trend continues, will soon likely not be a republic at all.

The Roman historian Tacitus wrote of old men in AD 14 who still remembered the republic, which had died only forty years prior. The republic never returned.

Still, it is worth the effort. History will not treat us well if we don't.
