The Israeli political and security leadership is privately horrified by President Barack Obamas 11th-hour turnaround on striking Syria a decision he took alone, after he had sent his Secretary of State John Kerry to speak out passionately and urgently in favor of military action. It is now fearful that, in the end, domestic politics or global diplomacy will ultimately lead the US to hold its fire altogether.
It is worried, furthermore, at the ever-deeper perception of Obamas America in the Middle East as weak, hesitant and confused most especially in the view of the regions most radical forces, notably including Bashar Assad, Hezbollah, and Iran.
And it is profoundly concerned that the president has set a precedent, in seeking an authorization from Congress that he had no legal requirement to seek and that Congress was not loudly demanding that may complicate, delay or even rule out credible action to thwart a challenge that dwarfs Assads chemical weapons capability: Irans drive to nuclear weapons.
Israels Channel 2 reported Sunday night that, once Obama had zigzagged to his decision not to strike for now, the White House contacted Israels leadership to convey the news. The goal, successfully achieved, was to ensure that there would be no avalanche of publicly aired criticism of the president by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ministers. Only the hawkish minister of housing, Uri Ariel, defied the prime ministers restraining order, complaining bitterly in an Army Radio interview Sunday morning that Assad was a cowardly murderer who needs to be taken care of, already. Ariel thus earned himself a dressing-down by Netanyahu, who told him at the Cabinet table that personally attacking the president of the United States did not serve Israels security interests.

And Jimmy Carter just smiles.
The sales pitch from Obama-McCain etc. to promote military action in Syria was focused on the use of chemical weapons against civilians.
Now there’s a new focus saying it is in the interest of Israel for the US to attack.
What’s really going on here?????
I’m turned off by and don’t trust articles with misleading titles.
Why would the State of Israel be upset that The Usurper was *not* acting in support of al-Quaeda?
I am aware that Assad is no friend of the Jewish State, but what has been (at least temporarily) averted is overt aid to the Muslim Brotherhood. (The covert aid, I’m sure, continues apace.)
I’m as supportive of Israel as anyone and am all for defending them. However defending them doesn’t include attacking Syria over an internal fight.
If Israel wants to go at it with Syria, more power to em.
For those of you unfamiliar with the term “loose cannon”, you have seen it very well defined by the Current Occupant of the White Hut. Untethered in any way, the reaction when he shoots off his mouth causes much more mischief and consternation in his own bunker than for the supposed “enemy”.
It is downright dangerous to the whole world to have The Won still in any position of authority. Step out from behind the curtain, Valerie Jarrett, and assume the public duties so we do not have these crossed lines of manipulation getting tangled on the stick-puppet now dancing across the stage.
Jump in or stay out? Whatever your opinion about that, we can all agree that Obama has failed big time on the world stage.
I take this from it: Israel fears Hezbollah more than it fears al-Quaeda. Or so it seems.
The decision may have saved Israel from a catastrophe. Hidden in all that Iranian aid to Syria are Iranian state of the art missile batteries manned by Revolutionary Guards and now situated in forward Syrian positions. They are a grave danger to Israel. Until the location of those batteries is pinpointed and they are destroyed, neither Syria or Iran can be attacked without a devastating response. Right now Israel finds itself in “check”. However this is no chess tournament. If Obama carried out his “limited strike”, death and destruction may have rained on Israel. Could be the real reason the US backed off.
Israel fears Obama.
Then "it" is profoundly foolish. Obama in doing this explicitly is saying he has the power to ignore congress and do anything he likes to Syria. And even if he bows to Congress this time it in no way takes away any prerogatives of future Presidents.
I don’t get why Israel would want the US to attack Syria, when Assad says he will retaliate against Israel (along with possibly Iran or at least Hezbollah). Why do they care if their sworn enemies (muslims) kill each other? What am I missing here?
Difficult to believe that Israel is “horrified” at what our impotent little leader does or doesn’t do. I bet the bank they find him buffoonish and two-faced, just as the rest of the world does. Israel depends only on itself and they always have. God bless them for it. It has simply been an honor that they have counted us as an ally. They have perfected the art of covert operations and fine tuned defense, just as they promised they would do in 1948. They will do whatever it takes for their survival. WHATEVER it takes.
Rightly so. Obama has been covertly helping the Muslim Brotherhood come to power in a number of Arab countries around Israel. Check my profile page for links about the MB and its ties to the Nazis and the AQs.
What about the Jew bobs in this country? They have never ever been treated better....but they hate it just the same.....unless we adopted Lenin’s MO....then their nuts would swell with pride.

JerUSAlem, indeed.
All over the Bible, Jerusalem reads as a metaphor/allegory/warning for America, so the title is spot on [regardless of the intent or accuracy of the publication].
FUBO
Israel, but for good wishes, you’re all alone. ‘Hope you can handle it.
