The Obama administration, bolstered by evidence the Syrian government used lethal sarin gas on its own people, expressed confidence Sunday that Congress would back President Obama’s decision for a military strike on the Middle East country.
The comment underscored the risk Obama took in deciding over the weekend to seek approval from Congress, a step King argues he didn't need to take.
Kerry told “Fox News Sunday” that he couldn’t imagine Congress would “turn its back” on Israel or other U.S. allies in the region and on the Syrians slaughtered in the Aug. 21 chemical weapon attack, allegedly ordered by President Bashar al-Assad.
“I can't contemplate that Congress would turn its back on all of that responsibility,” Kerry said. “I don’t believe Congress will do that.”
Kerry’s comments and the White House blitz were the latest in a series of dramatic turn of events since the chemical weapon attack two weeks ago outside Damascus that killed more than 1,400 people including hundreds of women and children.
The White House official confirms on Sunday the president called Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain over the weekend to invite him to the White House on Monday, the same day Obama will hold another conference call with House members.

The WH shouldn’t be counting their chickens before they hatch. I see odumo as putting the blame (current and future) squarely on the shoulders of Congress. Odumbo will never shoulder the responsibility OR the blame and will continue to vote “present” to avoid having any decision outcome related to him, that is unless things turn our well and then it was his decision all along.
I think the fix is in on this matter already, but I don’t know in which direction.
Party loyalty is strong on the dark side. Most of the GOP are driven by short term electoral interest.
On the list of the top twenty US issues and problems....this probably rates near number 75. For this reason, I suspect that the vote won’t go well, and several Republicans and Democrats will agree to table the mess...rather than put it to a vote and embearess the President.
As for Senator McCain...he’s become some roving I-gotta-an-answer Hollywood-wannabe-Senator. He should have retired at his peak in the late 1990s, and simply wrote a couple of books. Currently, I wouldn’t regard his beliefs or agenda as worth discussing.
And as for Syria? Well....there’s just something about this gas-episode that doesn’t add up. If you were ahead in the game and doing well against the civil war crowd....why screw things up? It just sounds like some baby-milk-factory episode, if you ask me...made for journalism.
I hear Obama is really wanting to punish Assad. Instead of seeking authority from Congress to use cruise missiles on Damascus, he’s gonna ask Congress to pass Obamacare for Syria.

America cannot afford another conflict that taxes our resources without achieving goals that advance American interests, and I will not support authorizing military action against Syria at this time.”

As I’ve said before, even a minute before Flight 10 hit the tower it was easier to argue that nothing going on in Afghanistan engaged “American interests.” But then Americans had to choose whether to burn to death or jump 89 floors.
