Drivers face having their cars fitted with devices that slam on the brakes if they go over the speed limit, under draconian new road safety measures being drawn up by officials in Brussels.
All new cars would have to include camera systems that read the limits displayed on road signs and automatically apply the brakes. And vehicles already on the road could even be sent back to garages to be fitted with the Big Brother technology, meaning that no car in the UK would be allowed to travel faster than 70 mphthe speed limit on motorways.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin is said to have erupted when the proposals landed on his desk, and has told his officials to block the moves.

I think everyone should have to wear a helmet which records everything they say and do, so that the government can completely control every aspect of our lives.
Then we can be like ants or bee’s where the individual counts for nothing, and everyone works for the ‘common’ good.
You know - the good of the ONE living in the golden palace.
This should surprise no one. The universities in the West have been churning out Nazis and Stalinists for 100 years and more.
A purge is long overdue.
Sign away your sovereignty to unelected bureaucrats and this is what you get.
We have that here too.

Wonder how many years before this finally goes through?
Just maybe common sense can prevail?
I can see me now.
I am driving along a two lane road. The car in front of me is doing 40 in a 50 mile zone. There is a passing lane, I have plenty of time I pull out to pass and when I hit 50 mph the car quits. The car coming toward me is gaining and my car has quit. The car next to me cannot or will not let me back in.
What do I do. What do I do, Probably die in a head on collision.
Expecting common sense out of the European Union is just expecting too much.
Another fine moment of the death of the West brought to you by the UK. Where the UK goes the West soon follows.
And why not have the government control Google glasses so it “augments” their reality so they won’t be able to see the truth.
Then they wouldn’t suffer.
And after all - part of the plan is to put them in their place.
Are Germans going to tolerate that on their highways?
Funny how the elites and elite institutions seem to have that problem. Consider those various forms of collectivism (Socialism, Nazism, Maoism, etc.) as experiments by the elites to see the best ways to enslave the human race.
Once again, this is what “progressivism” is - the progressive accumulation of top-down regulations to control virtually every aspect of life, from cradle to grave. Progressivism is progressive authoritarianism with no limits.
I read a fictional story back in the 1970s (don’t remember the title) about a kid who travels forward in time and finds out that everyone wears glasses that augment their reality. If something happens around them that isn’t approved by the State it is augmented by the video display with something else.
Seeing the Google Glasses become reality brings us that much closer to making fiction a reality.
In the end its right hemisphere implants until the proper eugenics boards are set up...
Then we can all live the Progressive dream.
It was kinda one of those wild “hopes”.
Beyond how insane this is on so many levels, this is an extremely dangerous idea (as you noted).
Wowsa, I thought this was satire to begin with.
Thanks Olog-hai.

Not likely.
The UK isn’t leading this, the EU is, the UK is opposed to this measure and it is things like this that are thankfully propelling US towards declaring independence in that future referendum.
