Mary Cheney, the younger daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney who married her long-time partner Heather Poe last year, chastised her older sister, a Republican who is running for the Senate, for her opposition to same-sex marriage in a posting on Facebook.
Liz Cheney, who is seeking a Senate seat in Wyoming, said on Friday that she was "not pro-gay marriage."
"For the record, I love my sister, but she is dead wrong on the issue of marriage," Mary Cheney wrote on Facebook, according to the New York Times.
"Freedom means freedom for everyone," she wrote, repeating a phrase once used by her father when he was asked about gay marriage. "That means all families - regardless of how they look or how they are made - all families are entitled to the same rights, privileges and protections as every other."
Both Mary Cheney and Liz Cheney could not be reached on Sunday for comment.
Liz Cheney on Friday clarified her position on same-sex marriage in response to what she said was a "dishonest push poll" in which callers were asked whether they were aware that she supports abortion and aggressively promotes gay marriage.
"I am strongly pro-life and I am not pro-gay marriage," Liz Cheney said in her statement on Friday. "I believe the issue of marriage must be decided by the states, and by the people in the states, not by judges and not even by legislators, but by the people themselves."
Mary Cheney responded by saying that the issue was "not something to be decided by a show of hands."

If I was a cynical man... snicker... I’d possibly think that this is being orchestrated within the family as a PR blitz to help her election chances, and that after she wins, she’ll “re-assess” here position.

Of course Mary Cheney wants the issue to be decided by a show of hands. It’s just that she wants it to be 5 hands, led by Anthony Kennedy, who imposes it on the entire nation.
While there is no conservative justification for gay marriage, the fact remains that an increasing number of Republicans (some of which are conservative on most issues) are coming out in support of gay marriage. Really, this isn’t all that surprising as the elite forces in favor of gay marriage are powerful and hard to resist.
But for any conservative or Republican to support the judicial imposition of gay marriage is inexcusable. There is no way to argue that the Constitution requires state recognition of gay unions without invoking the unbound ‘living Constitution’ method of interpretation. And if you are willing to buy it on marriage, then there is no reason to argue against it on abortion or anything other issue.
If Republicans can’t at least agree on how the issue should be decided (i.e. not by the courts), then what kind of party is it? If Republican leaders, after decades of talking the talk but nothing else for evangelicals and other conservative Christians, can’t at least fight for the right of states to decide the issue, then it’s just more proof of their outright disdain for those most likely to vote for them.
Doesn’t matter to me, if I could vote for Liz I damn sure would.

Liz Cheney is lying and pulling a Romney, (who she supported in and worked for in 2008).
Liz Cheney has supported gay marriage and the homosexual agenda for years, while having never revealed any pro-life leanings.
Now suddenly within the last few weeks she has announced that she is not for gay marriage and uses the flat, simple phrase of “I’m strongly pro-life” in answer to abortion questions.
Don't you post your support for the homosexual agenda on every Liz Cheney thread?
Marriage is given special consideration because a married couple both reproduce and raise/acculturate their children.
Queers can’t reproduce and their “culture”, being profoundly warped and destructive, is hardly what any reasonable society wants to subsidize or support.
Electing a closeted queer was not a good idea, as a much earlier lesson on queers was quite specific about - yeah, that curriculum on queers traced back to Mt. Sinai.

As I've yet to find a candidate than I feel perfectly supports my beliefs, I can support one that comes closest to my desires for our Republic, but would never support one that opposes life.
You’re right. Roberts certainly can’t be counted on.
But it was thought that Roberts would join the liberals to strike down DOMA, in part because of his lesbian relative. Instead he sided with the conservatives. However on Prop 8, he was the decisive vote of the procedural decision denying supporters of the measure to defend it after California officials refused to do so. I’m not sure how to read this. Maybe he was serious about the procedural argument. Or it could be that he wouldn’t like the outcome that he thought would have occurred had the Sup Court used the Prop 8 case as chance to either impose gay marriage nationally, or declare it to be a matter for the states to decide.
I don’t know. But I do think that if the issue returns to this Sup Court, and it’s clear that Kennedy is going to be the decisive vote to impose gay marriage nationally, then Roberts would join the liberals to make it a 6-3 decision, and therefore make it seem less ‘divisive’. This would of course be used to try and further marginalize opposition to gay marriage.
One thing is CERTAIN... Ruth Ginsberg WILL vote to legalize homosexual marriage.
She just officiated one.

That is staged, after supporting gay marriage since at least 2009, suddenly Mary and Liz have a public disagreement over Liz’s newly invented social conservatism.
Liz Cheney fully supported gay marriage as “freedom means freedom for everyone”, that is a civil rights statement.
Liz Cheney supported the homosexual agenda at the FEDERAL level, and for homosexualizing the American military.
Cheney is pulling a Romney, she is just suddenly reversing her positions after years of promoting them.
Liz Cheney was early in her support for gay marriage and the homosexual agenda, including at the federal level and for the military.
She wanted DADT ended and rejoiced when it was, she was against DOMA, is against a constitutional amendment to save marriage, and supports gay marriage, and supports the State department move to the gay agenda.
After 46 years of life and politics, and being a member of the Romney campaign where she never expressed a pro-life belief, she has also suddenly become “strongly pro-life”, just for this campaign.

I do read the claim and though she did support Romney, who also had supported homosexual unions while serving in MA, claimed to have a "change of heart" but many in the Republican wound up "supporting" him, though not his prior liberal stances.
I viewed myself as supporting a conservative wing of the Republican Party, though no one could accuse me of supporting a homosexual agenda merely because I supported its candidate.
Again, if you can point me to anything Liz has said or written in favor of the homosexual agenda, I'd be most appreciative.
