Well known for his portrayal of Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, actor and musician Gary Sinise was named an honorary U.S. Marine during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Friday, according to a statement released by the U.S. Marine Corps website.
This was one of the most extraordinary nights, Sinise said in the statement. I was totally surprised by what the general gave me tonight. Im humbled, shocked, moved and motivated to keep standing up for our men and women and giving back to them.
Gen. James F. Amos, the Marine Corps commandant, hosted the ceremony at his home at the Marine Barracks.

I hope the Kenyan is watching.
He and the Lt Dan Band were at Kandahar Airfield when I was there. They paid a visit to our Brigade’s Wounded Warrior tent, and he chatted it up with a bunch of our guys. I didn’t make it to the concert, but I heard it was really good. Sinise seemed like a real good guy.
They don’t get much better.
Concur. If there’s an actor out there who deserves this, it’s Mr. Sinise. He’s one of the good guys in Hollywood, and I’m sure it’s cost him.
That’s pretty danged neat. Sinise is a class act all the way and has done a lot to support the troops.
“Neat. Is Sinese a good guy or a whacko liberal?”
He’s a good guy, Laz, just like us.
Wonderful! Thank you!
“So glad the award wasnt given by Benghazi Barry”
I thought the same thing!
I knew this was about Gary before I even clicked on the link. He walks the walk.
I LOVE Gary Sinese!
And he’s a bass player too! Like me!
He might EVEN be a FReeper...who knows?
Sinese’s drummer in the Lt Dan Band, is Danny Gottlieb, probably best known as the original drummer in The Pat Metheny Group.
“He also plays concerts for troops in his band, the Lt Dan Band.”
Sinise and his band traveled all over Afghanistan playing for the troops, even in some of the most remote camps. They play DOZENS of shows a year for the benefit of injured troops.
They play at Oshkosh, too, and had a special deal for the WW2 vets this year.
Cool!
Bass and Drums are the backbone.
If General Amos says so it’s good enough for me-—Semper Fi
Laz, c'mon. 1. Whether or not he's a "good guy" or a liberal, he supports the troops, BIG TIME.
2. Have we fallen so far here on FR that we have joined the MSM in labeling everyone, and if their politics don't match ours, do we discount everything they do?
I have noticed lately here that there's an awful lot of "well, she believes such n such" or he supports "this n that" so they must be bad guys."
Discernment is our friend. If I lived next to you and was afraid of guns, would you not help push me out of the drive during the next snow storm? Would you turn away a fresh apple pie, cos I had extra, from me? (btw, I'm a gun-totin, conservative Catholic who hates the clown in chief, I believe in Purgatory and Hell, and I think the public schools should be closed down. Got a problem with any of that? Oh, and I sometimes forget to wear RED on Fridays.)
Agreed but still think it’s kind of sad that the list of actors is so short these days.
Lt. Dan is the man. This is great. He deserves this.
