A Syrian state-run newspaper on Sunday called President Barack Obama's decision to seek congressional approval before taking military action against Syria "the start of the historic American retreat."
The gloating tone in the front-page article in the Al-Thawra daily followed Obama's unexpected announcement on Saturday that he would ask Congress to support a strike punishing the President Bashar Assad's regime for the alleged use of chemical weapons. The decision marked a stark turnabout for the White House, which had appeared on the verge of ordering U.S. forces to launch a missile attack against Syria.
As the Obama administration waits for Congress to vote, it is taking its case to the public. Sec. Kerry on Sunday told guest host Major Garrett on "Face the Nation" the U.S. has firm evidence Sarin gas was used in the chemical attacks the administration is pointing to as a reason for intervention.
"We now have samples back from first responders in East Damascus," Kerry said. "Those samples of hair and blood have been tested and they have reported positive for signatures of Sarin. So, we are now getting a stronger case each day. The credibility of the United States is on the line here and I believe that Congress will do the right thing."
The president's decision to take this to Congress came as a surprise even to his own advisers, reports CBS News correspondent Bill Plante.

"Whether the Congress lights the red or green light for an aggression, and whether the prospects of war have been enhanced or faded, President Obama has announced yesterday, by prevaricating or hinting, the start of the historic American retreat," Al-Thawra said.

President Barack “Blinky” Obama.
Shouldn’t it be “Binky”?
Of course it is. Obama got his ass handed to him on the stern coldness of a diplomatic platter in the form of a deriding laugh from Putin and a cold warning of the consequences of his petulant action.
The only thing this little boy could do is to retreat behind the War Powers Act and go for the time-out while Congress gathers its collective lack balls.
In the end, he won’t get his WPA nod because the House won’t comply. Then, Obama can go back to Putin (sufficiently stood off from direct interaction, of course) and tell him “my mommy won’t let me fight.”
A real President, a real Secretary of State, in short a real government, would not have gotten into this predicament in the first play. He is an evil little boy playing a grown up game.
he immediately hit the links and cooly shot a 74.”
Which did not include counting 16 mulligans, which were necessary because Joe was talking while he was trying to hit the ball, or 5 lost balls, because you can’t count something you can’t find, or 11 shots into the water, as those were hit there on purpose to create an income opportunity for those who would follow later, retrieve the balls and then sell them.
“President Barack Blinky Obama”
...forgot to wash before using the same teleprompter as John Edwards.
Get a formal declaration of war from Congress before we bomb. Otherwise it is like the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. The last President with the leadership to ask Congress to declare war was Roosevelt. It was also the last war that united the nation. It was also the last war we won. It’s what Presidents should do.

Is that the position which Reggie prefers his little barry bastard boy to assume?
If I were POTUS, I would have drawn a red line for WMD use, but with a small qualification: Any nation using WMD’s on non-Muslim countries will incur an immediate military response.
Don’t know nutthin’ ‘bout that but it looks like Gaffer is daydreaming about the day he’ll be sitting in the high backed chair.
We’ve all heard the expression, “don’t poke the bear”, this is more like “poking the country bear jamboree.”
But Zero won’t be ‘dissed’.

Pretty sad that he was not hitting the phones with the house and senate, world leaders. Shows how out of touch he is with the world . Out playing golf with crazy Uncle Joe.
Don’t know if this is true - just sent via email:
BBC News uses ‘Iraq photo to illustrate Syrian massacre’
Secretary of State John Kerry referenced this photograph when making his speech today, trying to drive home how awful the Syrian chemical attack was as he tried to convince us why we should go to war. One problem. The picture isn’t even from Syria. It’s from Iraq in 2003. The photographer, Marco di Lauro, said he nearly “fell off his chair” when he saw it was being used to promote a war in Syria. It’s getting pretty disturbing to see how far our politicians, both Republican and Democrat, are willing to go to drum up support for a war nobody wants.
1). I don’t believe any scores he claims.
2). I am glad he slowed down on his rush to war and is going to congress. It is one of the few things Obarky has done that I like. It gives him one option out of this mess. Another would be to just come out and say or admit that we don’t know who launched the attack and there is a lot of suspicion that the rebels did it. Even I could have a little bit of respect for that.
I don’t give a crap what the Syrian think. We could bomb them back to the stone age. I just hope we don’t. The time for that was when we rolled across Iraq and should have taken down Syria and Iran. Bush was too weak to do that. It would have saved a lot of American military lives.
Kerry said sarin was used, he didn’t say who used it.
Syria missed a chance at true ridicule. The caption under the picture should be “OBAMA PLAYS WITH IMAGINARY GUN”.
Biden is thinking “I wonder if they could take some plugs from my chin.’
Actually, it’s pretty disturbing to see how far Assad’s apologists will go to sweep a chemical weapon mass-murder under the rug. The BBC screwed up with a picture, it didn’t come from Kerry or Obama.
