NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Faced with a potentially serious primary challenger, Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander was not about to sit back and wait.
The former two-term governor locked down endorsements, banked more than $3 million and linked arms with popular Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and former GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee. When conservative state Rep. Joe Carr announced he would challenge Alexander, the senator's team was ready.

Now, now, Runt Paul still has considerable capital on FR, rare to see Cruz mentioned without having Runt's named tacked into the article. Runt has an immigration plan that doesn't grant amnesty, but no one has to go home, win, win.
More like “Rocky Flop”.
It’s turning around. Be afraid. Very afraid. Maybe not this year, but payback is coming.
New Boss in town - NOT same as old boss.
I am NOT a fan of Orange!
That’s fine. But we will have more allies in the Orange nation that we will from Vandy or Tiger High.
No doubt about it. Infuriates me.
“The footage that Sen. Alexander’s campaign is using is from a public press conference in regards to a bill they both cosponsored,” spokesman Sergio Gor said. “At this time Senator Paul has not made an endorsement in this race.”
If this is true, he should tell alexander to stop using the footage as an implied endorsement. Perception is everything.
I don’t know if they’re still running the ad. Clearly, Lamar! is quite concerned about his renomination that he’s running ads a year ahead of time. Those that know him aren’t fooled. He’s been a phony from Jump Street.
The reason they fight the Conservatives is because the Dems and Repubs that are NOW in Washington are "two supposedly different wings... but they're still ONE bird." It's become a ONE PARTY system.
We need a NEW party. One that actually represents Conservatives.
The job of a politician is to get reelected.Tell that to Mitt Romney. Or John McCain. Or Bob Dole. Or George HW Bush.
None of these guys ran as hard against their Democrat opponent as they did against their conservative challengers.
Maybe they think of themselves as Statesmen and not politicians.
He's neither a Statesman nor a politician.
Interestingly, that was Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst's tactics in his race against Ted Cruz.
Dewhurst was a nominal incumbent -- like McConnell. And Cruz was out of nowhere -- like Bevin.
The longer the campaign went, the dirtier Dewhurst's campaign became.
And look who won in the end...
Agreed
