Silicon Valley has a serious homeless problem, despite the fact that the Valley is home to some of the richest zip codes in the nation. Over the past eight years the U.S. watched its homeless population decline by more than 130,000 people.
That's a nearly 17 percent drop that flies in the face of Silicon valley's 8 percent increase in its homeless population over the last two years.
Not including San Francisco — which has a serious homeless problem of its own — the Silicon Valley stretches through the Santa Clara Valley down from Redwood City, through Palo Alto, Mountain View, and San Jose.
What is causing the trend-bucking homelessness problem in the area? In addition to the rising cost of housing and lack of adequately paying jobs, we found that mental illness and substance abuse are problems in the Valley's homeless community like elsewhere in the country. Forty percent of the country's homeless suffer from substance abuse or mental illness and though the National Alliance on Mental Illness calls California's mentally ill housing the "gold standard," the state cut its mental health budget by 21 percent from 2009 to 2012.
"It's a perfect storm of homelessness," San Jose's Housing 100's Jennifer Loving told Business Insider referring to the budget cuts, lack of allocated housing, recession-era tax breaks in the county, a lack of adequately paying jobs, a growing wealth gap, and rising home prices for sales and rentals.

Bad arithmetic? or bad reporting?
Where do they get these number and what is the definition they use for homeless? They seem way inflated. Who would ever want to inflate the number of homeless?
let us also note the fact that MOST cheap housing in the “valley” is likely occupied by several “undocumented “tenants”...crowding out low and no income Americans.
I mean, what could POSSIBLY go wrong...?

The roads leading into Silicon valley run both ways. These “unfortunates” can leave, anytime they want, unless they have also had their feet lopped off.
People in multiple categories. Every one of them should be in People in Families or Individuals (which do add up to Overall) AND they could also be in Veterans or Chronic, possibly even both (nothing says veterans can’t be chronic).
Vagrancy, generally a misdemeanor offense, is no longer enforced in most municipalities since the 1970’s, hence the “homeless” problem that has exploded since then, and these “homeless” in affluent areas can make considerable money panhandling (newspeak for begging) that the IRS never hears about. San Fran in particular is a vile place. If you eve make eye contact with a street person, they harrass and follow you.

Some people were born to live in luxury by God, and if they can't afford it, someone else will pay for it.
Just not them.
Come one, come all - whether you have the skills and brains to live here, we'll build yet more welfare ant hills to house you in, whether it be in Palo Alto amid the multi-million dollar homes or on the beach in Santa Cruz, where you can surf and play and let others pay.
Hell, that's who they BUILD it for!
In Santa Cruz County, you have major subsidized townhome developments where not a WORD of English is heard!
If a white Anglo-Saxon family were to try to move in, they would be violently terrorized until they took the hint: Get Out Gringo, this is our land!
The government provides a package of welfare benefits that includes housing, a cash stipend, food and medical insurance to able-bodied individuals who are unemployed, that provides a living superior to working a minimum wage job. The catch is that they have to be sober.
If you were “homeless” for whatever reason, would you choose to be “homeless” in a low or middle income community or a high income community? What better place to panhandle for money than a community populated by high income liberals? A beggar in Silicone Valley spends less time begging on the street corner, collects more money, and gets to go back to his camp to relax and enjoy.

Here In Marin County Ive not seen ANYONE who could be considered anglo saxon doing YARDWORK in ten years or more.
Some fifteen or so years ao the first known Illegals RIghts March was held in San Rafael [ marin county] CA. The Slogan of the day was and I quote..”Tell Wilson Hes a LIAR We’ll Set Your Ass On Fire”
