WASHINGTON (AP) -- The intelligence linking Syrian President Bashar Assad or his inner circle to an alleged chemical weapons attack that killed at least 100 people is no "slam dunk," with questions remaining about who actually controls some of Syria's chemical weapons stores and doubts about whether Assad himself ordered the strike, U.S. intelligence officials say.

However, multiple U.S. officials used the phrase "not a slam dunk" to describe the intelligence picture - a reference to then-CIA Director George Tenet's insistence in 2002 that U.S. intelligence showing Iraq had weapons of mass destruction was a "slam dunk" - intelligence that turned out to be wrong.
A report by the Office of the Director for National Intelligence outlining that evidence against Syria is thick with caveats. It builds a case that Assad's forces are most likely responsible while outlining gaps in the U.S. intelligence picture. Relevant congressional committees were to be briefed on that evidence by teleconference call on Thursday, U.S. officials and congressional aides said.

In fact, the media is spinning themselves silly on this story.
Al Qaeda was behind the gas attack. Obama knew it when it happened. Didn’t want to waste a crisis, and he definitlely didn’t expect anyone to require proof from him of Assad’s involvement since he is used to the media taking his word for it.
We still don’t know who ordered the Benghazi Stand Down and we should trust this?

I work at a university, and there are tons of Birkenstock wearing, grey ponytailed coiffed, no makeup/no shaving Janet Napolitano-looking liberals here. All this week I’ve been very vocal with them about how Bush did the same that Obama is doing, and we don’t need to go to war in the Middle East, using ALL of the same arguments THEY use back in 2002-2008.
It’s like stirring up a cesspool! They are agreeing with me. I’ve stoked the flames of Obama disdain among his most vehement supporters!
I’m now using this episode to bring up the duplicity of the media. Taking them down a peg or two helps after hearing 15 years of Fox News hatred. And I am feeding the screw-worm of Benghazi into their ears, and just what was the CIA was doing there? Add a healthy does of NSA spying and collecting dossiers on everyone, the IRS getting political (as simple as, “What if Ted Cruz was president and used THAT against the Left?”) and throw in Hillary’s involvement, and it’s been fun city all Summer.
Something as simple as profound disillusionment can be a negative for the democrats running for office come fund-raising time. Just doing my part...

What absolute hypocisy from this administration! When will they hold Obama responsible for the misuse of power by his rogue regime against the American people (IRS, NSA, etc.)?
Why the hadez does it have to be only our intelligence responsible? I recall other nations running to sound the alarm prior to us. Let them run the ball this time..and do it alone at that. We never come out ahead, in fact, we are worse off. We can be the “support” this time...(that lasts a few months).

Had to hear about it at work when I described the Syrian thing to the other ‘brotha’ working here as ‘Bush in black face and big ears’ [snicker]
