Russian president Vladimir Putin was "infuriated" by President Obama's joke that he looked "like the bored kid in the back of the classroom," according to a Kremlin official quoted anonymously by the New York Times.
The report comes as the United States weighs a military response to the use of chemical weapons in Syria a move that Russian officials have warned President Obama against. Russia is expected to block any attempt to get authorization for a strike in the United Nations Security Council, where Moscow holds veto power.
Obama made the comment earlier this summer during a showdown with Putin over Edward Snowden, the former U.S. defense contractor who leaked top-secret details of the National Security Agency's surveillance programs. Putin ultimately opted to grant Snowden temporary asylum over the objections of Obama, and the president was asked about his working relationship with the Russian leader.
"I know the press likes to focus on body language, and he's got that kind of slouch, looking like the bored kid in the back of the classroom. But the truth is that when we're in conversations together, oftentimes it's very productive," Obama said.
The president insisted that he did not have "a bad personal relationship with Putin."
"When we have conversations, theyre candid, theyre blunt; oftentimes, theyre constructive," Obama continued.
0’s getting a little too big for his pants. Someone’s going to knock that block off one day. In view of the current tensions in the Midde East, maybe not the best choice and a lottle unpofessional but thats just IMO of course.
If Putin was really angry, he’d release what he knows about Obama.
He’s not that angry.
Just a simple bet....but I’m of the mind that the latest and greatest of Russian technology is quietly sitting in Syria...manned by the Russian engineers...and the US will quietly find themselves in a hole as this ‘little war’ starts up. All you need is three or four US aircraft knocked down in the first day, and there’s bound to be a bunch of explaining that the Pentagon and the President has to do.
And you really wouldn’t want to be the President, trying to find the right words to excuse the mess you walked into.
For Putin, Syria is a demonstration show. If you think anything less, then you are wrong.
LOL.
Yep, I just heard the same reported on the early edition of Fox and Friends or whatever the program is called.
The Russkies are the Masters at lying, deceit and disinformation.
Pee-in-his-pants Putin couldn't care less what the Amateur American President says or does. He knows he's playing chess with kid who only knows checkers.
Putin is too experienced to get caught up in a name-calling argument. This is BS.
He is just waiting for Obama to screw up, which he has been doing since January 2009. It's just a matter of time before Obama paints himself into a box which he has done now.
calling a world class martial artist names just isn’t smart... and i’m pretty sure Putin doesn’t care what 0bama thinks.
makes me wonder... would we end up at war if putin b*tch slapped 0bama the next time they met? i can’t remember the last time a county went to war due to a personal insult/assault of its leader
Obama really is a screw-up, isn’t he.
Imagine Mr. Obama in the place of President Kennedy during the Cuban missile crisis, in the place of President Nixon during the Six Day War, in the place of President Ford during the tree cutting incident in Korea, or in the place of President Truman during the Berlin Airlift.
I hope Putin performs a Global Judo Flip on this loser.
broncobozo is shooting his mouth off, but only his media operatives give a damn.
Putin is keeping his powder dry.
Sounds like a planted story by the Clown...trying to make him appear to be a player.

I wish, for once, someone like Putin would bust up our Present...
I want America to always be great, proud and respected, in a way that leaves everyone looking to business with us or taking a step backward if we get in the mood to bitch slap em...
Putin looks like a cross between Andrew McCulkin (home alone) and Dobby (house elf from harry potter).
Putin says he will strike Saudi Arabia if the US hits Syria. After all, not using chemical weapons should make you a target.
The only thing to do is to call his bluff, and hit Syria with nukes. I am sure this will end well.
Assad vs. Al Queda, Hmmm. Like Hitler vs. Stalin. Can we be sure that they both lose? Hitler solved our moral problem by declaring war on the US after Pear Harbor. Perhaps Assad is more clever than Hitler.
Theres etiquette for being a world leader. You never, never say anything bad about another world leader. Thats because you will, at some point, need that leaders cooperation for something. Therefore, a bad history between the two of you is unacceptable. Controlling any potentially negative message is probably why you dont see any other world leaders on popular gossip shows. You, as a world leader, have no idea how the show might edit your comments to achieve ratings. Therefore, the WL wisdom is to stay clear. Had Obama paid his dues, spent more years in lesser positions, he’d know how to behave. This is one problem with affirmative action in politics. Candidates arrive in positions they’re unqualified to fill.
Rules are different for leaders like Chavez, Castro and Ahmadinejad. Their countries are outliers on the political fringe and they cant further harm their standing by being critical of other world leaders. From this perspective, Obama is in their league more so than in Putins league.
