Gun charges against a new Black Panther Party leader have been dropped, court officials said.
After pleading guilty in Gwinnett County last year to writing a bad check for $3,000, a felony, Hashim Nzinga was arrested for selling a gun at a DeKalb County pawn shop, authorities said.
It is illegal in Georgia for a convicted felon to have a gun, and Nzinga, 49, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and arrested on March 26.
Last week, DeKalb County prosecutors dismissed the charge.
Nzinga hadnt been told he shouldnt own a firearm, DeKalb Assistant District Attorney Helen Peters told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
I got confirmation from Gwinnett that he wasnt notified of his rights until after he sold the gun, Peters said.
Days before Nzingas arrest, the Stone Mountain father of six and chief of staff of the New Black Panther Party told the news media the organization was offering a $10,000 bounty for the citizens arrest of George Zimmerman, who admitted to killing unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in self-defense last year in Sanford, Fla.

an illiterate moron who belongs to an organization that thas the full support of the Justice Department and the White House and all of their lawyers to give them free representation
I wouldn’t be surprised. I’ll bet the Obama Gestapo now has something on ALL of us in that massive pig sty that they’ve got up in Utah. Just send a name to Utah and you’ve got your target by the short hairs.
He’s one of holder’s “people”
why should he have to obey the same laws white people have to?
Good point. Who would have ever thought we’d live to see the day that the U.S. Department of Justice would be the Black Panther Terrorist Group’s number one supporter and defender?
Between blacks, homos, and islamists, there would hardly be any news on Freerepublic. Note that I didn’t include the bamster in the list since he counts as all three.
Nzinga hadnt been told he shouldnt own a firearm, DeKalb Assistant District Attorney Helen Peters told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Whatever happened to “Ignorance of the law is no excuse”
In all fairness, if someone who owns guns is convicted of a felony, before they are incarcerated, or if they are not incarcerated, they should have a grace period to sell or gift their guns to someone else.
This implies that they must at some point receive court instructions that they are prohibited from gun ownership and that they must dispose of any guns and ammunition by a date certain.
Importantly, the ruling applies to their *family* and *roommates* as well in most cases, in that nobody else in their domicile can legally have a gun there either, without the felon being subject to arrest for it.
bullcrap he wasn’t told. all felons are told that.
He didn’t KNOW he wasn’t supposed to have a gun.
Well, okay then, no biggie. Have a nice day Mr. N. B. Panther!
I think that’s the first time I’ve ever heard of the “ignorance of the law” defense actually working.
I got confirmation from Gwinnett that he wasnt notified of his rights until after he sold the gun, Peters said.
IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE!
unless you are "special"...
The DA appears to be one of holder’s people as well.
Shocking that this father of six, Chief of Staff for TNBP who managed a *portfolio* of $10,000 to provide bounty for the citizen's arrest of George Zimmerman wouldn't know this.
Having held SO MANY dubious responsibilities, it would seem *obvious* that such an *astute* citizen would be aware of this commonly known law.
Don't you think it is ironic, that one of the most anti Obama states, is Utah? And that is where the pig sty is.
IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE!
Duh........
Eh? Isn’t the cleaning lady supposed to polish knobs???
ah...the “Just Us” Dept strikes again......
Well surprise, surprise, surprise!
