WASHINGTON) -- In a roundtable discussion on This Week, ABC's Cokie Roberts reflected on the progress in the United States 50 years after the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.s I have a Dream speech.
Roberts said, Growing up in the Deep South in the era of Jim Crow, the difference is dramatic Its a great testament to the fact that when you do something like pass a voting rights bill. That makes a difference. ....
Whats going on about voting rights is downright evil because it is something that really needs to keep going forward not backward.

It should be as easy to vote as it is to buy a gun.
Someone should give Cokie a pokie!
I guess Ms. Roberts just forgot to mention that the Southern racist states were governed by DEMOCRATS! Oh, and by the way, the KKK was founded, staffed and supported by, you guessed it, the DEMOCRATS!
sigh.
Huh?
Showing a government ID card to check your name off on the voting roll, is NOTHING compared to poll tests that were designed to be confusing and discourage people from voting.
NOTHING SIMILAR AT ALL.
EVERYONE HAS G-DAMN ID TODAY. THEY CAN GET ONE FREE IF NEEDED.
This is idiotic AND discengenuous AND just plain EVIL for liberals today to equate showing an ID with 1950s southern democrat anti-black, anti-republican voter tactics.
Aha. Coke-head Roberts has finally emerged once again!
She is so far left that for a time she’s fallen off the radar, but here she is again. Defaming the nation that would be well rid of her along with the phony in the White Hut.
Cokie Roberts’ lies are downright evil
Cokie stays true to her liberal cause, that’s for sure. I disagree with most everything she says, but I wish Cokie well since dealing with her Mom’s death last month. Lindy Boggs, a former Louisiana Congresswoman died at 97. A lot of centurians these days. People who live almost to 100, and people who grow to almost seven feet are still unusual, but not as rare as they were, say, thirty years ago.
Another non issue being used to scare people by the media and progressive left. Who are the US citizens of legal age being denied the right to vote? Felons, yes in some states.
Residency requirements. Yes, you must prove residence in the location where you plan to vote. Is this a hardship? No. In most instances a photo ID or utility bill can be used to prove residency.
Citizenship requirement. Yes. Why is this an issue? Voting is a privilege that goes with citizenship. If a non citizen wants to vote in a US election they can go through the process to become a citizen.
Picture ID to cast a vote? Yes. Why is this a hardship? Progressives claim it is a hardship for the elderly. The elderly must have a photo ID to draw social security and medicare so where is the hardship? Progressives also claim it is a burden on the poor. The poor must show a picture ID to sign up for welfare benefits or drive a car. Should a poor or elderly person not have a driver’s license with a photo ID states provide for citizens to obtain a free photo state issued photo ID.
Any other limits? No if a person can prove citizenship and fill out the documents. There are no poll taxes or property ownership requirements. There are no race, sex, religious, income, or ethnic requirements or exclusions. In fact if they can’t read or write they can get help filling out the documents.
Zero evidence has been presented as states denying legitimate voters access to the polls. This issue is merely a distraction.
cokehead roberts is “...Downright evil”. That she poses as a “journalist” in itself is disgusting. She is politician spawn inflicted upon us by her political parents...just like algore, the Insufferable Boor.
Hey Cokie - is it evil to show an ID to:
Get on a plane?
Buy liquor?
Buy cigarettes?
Cash a check?
Go on a White House Tour?
Buy a gun?
Get welfare?
Get Social Security?
Buy a house?
Rent an apartment?

Not to mention that you have to show ID to get a job. It is curious that somehow obamaLIVs have the ID to get welfare and buy booze, but lack the proper ID to vote or get jobs.
Roberts also forgot to mention that it was a Republican who wrote the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
“...A lot of centurians these days...”
I don’t see any Imperial Roman officers going about in full armor these days, but there are quite a few centenarians who are still with us.
(sorry)
Anyway, North Carolina, you are WARNED! Cokie Roberts is giving you the stinkeye on voting rights!
“It should be as easy to vote as it is to buy a gun.”
Problem is, we’ll end up with vote-control measures to keep guns and voting away from conservatives, but not from illegals from Mexico.
Cokie Roberts always reminded me of Wednesday Addams.

Cookie Roberts? I didn’t know that fossil was still alive.
Sigh, so she is and getting dumber by the minute.
She was dumb 30 years ago. Now, a box of rox can out think her.
