The family of 16-year-old Kenan Adams-Kinard spoke only to KHQ Saturday as police continue to search for him in connection with the beating death of 88-year-old Delbert Belton.
Both Kenan's father and uncle asked to remain anonymous to protect the safety of the family. Right now, both stress the need for Kenan to come forward and turn himself in to police.
"He's out there and if anybody knows where he's at or something, they really need to contact the family because we are trying to bring him in," Kenan's Dad said. "We don't want this prolonged, we really need to get this over with and get through with this and find out what's really the situation, of really, what happened in this tragedy."
The family says they want this all to come to an end as quickly as possible.
"We wish we could find him right now, I wish he'd come forward to his family, so we can bring him in because we have love for you Kenan," Kenan's Uncle said. "You're not a bad kid, we know this, this is your uncle talking and I love you man. But, I ask for you to reach out and contact your family because everybody is concerned."
According to the family, they do not think this was a random attack. Instead, they say there is a side to the story we are not hearing.
"They are building it like these kids just went and beat up an old man, which it didn't occur like that, but it is all going to come out," Kenan's Uncle said.
His uncle also thinks something must have happened that has yet to come out, saying his nephew is not a violent person. Other family members say Kenan was a good kid, who played sports and was well liked in school.
Kenan's Dad says the family cannot believe this happened and want him to know they still love him and need him to come forward.
"We just don't know what went wrong, you know, for Kenan to go through that or whatever happened," Kenan's Dad said. "We don't know and we haven't had a chance to talk to him really and that's true, we haven't. I know he's scared to death out there."
Since the attack, his family says they have been getting threats and are worried that if Kenan does not turn himself in, those will continue.
"It's like a domino, everybody is hurt behind this," Kenan's Uncle said. "You're not a bad kid, turn yourself in, come to us, so we can bring you in before you get hurt out there."
Again, the family just wants Kenan to turn himself in and says they are looking for answers along with the rest of the community.
"There's no way I would let my Kenan be out there like that," Kenan's Dad said. "I would take him in [to police] because I understand, I know there a lot of people that are very angry, very angry, and they could take his life."
The family also expressed condolences to Delbert Belton's family and friends, saying this is something that should never happen to anyone.
At this time, 16-year-old Kenan Adams-Kinard is wanted for first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. His dad is asking for Kenan or anyone who knows where he is to call the family, so they can turn him in to police safely.
The other suspect, Demetrius Glenn, is expected to make his first appearance in court as an adult Monday afternoon.
Not recharged. REVOKED.
If they haven’t talked with him, how do they know what happened?
If he was not involved why wouldn’t he turn himself in?
I would like to know what the other little darling perp had to say and if he confessed or told on his friend.
Hope resists arrest.........
“My family would do the same. And seriously, all it TOOK was a sidelong glance from Grandpa for the most MINOR infraction of the rules and you straightened right UP! Disappointing your elders was a BFD during my childhood, be it your Parents, Grandparents, Aunts or Uncles, even elder Cousins - EVERYONE had free reign to kick your @ss when warranted, LOL!”
Amen!
My old man used to say that if I ever got into trouble with the police he said that he would turn the key on the cell to lock me up! ;-)
Dad doesnt want it prolonged maybe because too much attention is focused on the family; who for some reason I suspect are not sterling citizens themselves. Of course once the boy is caught and the racehustlers come in, Dad and family will be all over TV under the protection of Holder.
This whole lying POS family should be beat to death. Over several days.
