New climate change hearings called by … Republicans?

Coming in September to a congressional chamber near you, (assuming you’re in DC) another round of hearings on climate change. But this one has a twist.

House Republicans have summoned the leaders of 13 federal agencies to a hearing next month to examine their plans to implement a sweeping climate change agenda that President Obama outlined in a June speech.

Organized by the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power, the Sept. 18 hearing seeks information “from relevant federal agencies about U.S. climate change policies and the administration’s second-term climate agenda, and to obtain fuller information regarding the federal government’s past, current and planned domestic and international activities, climate research programs, initiatives, and new regulatory requirements,” said subcommittee Chairman Edward Whitfield (R-Ky.).

The laundry list of agencies summoned by Whitfield to testify is available at the link and it’s pretty much everyone in the upper levels of government outside of the military. The LA Times chooses to describe this as a final chance, “to wrest a measure of control over the administration’s climate change agenda” but I’m not sure that’s an accurate analysis. There’s no need to take control of the President’s climate agenda because it can’t be done, absent having a new president. But this could still be an important opportunity to expand the conversation, which has been almost entirely one sided to date.

Since the president came out with his call for “market-based legislation to reduce emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases” the committee has an opportunity to put an official spotlight on the first phrase in that requirement. The fact is, “market-based” and “reduce emissions” don’t generally collide in the same sentence, and this could be a chance to get all of the government experts to weigh in on exactly what the costs are, not only in direct federal dollars, but in jobs lost and increased prices at the pump and in taxpayers’ heating and utility bills. I get the feeling that Whitfield is playing a longer game here than some are giving him credit for.

This is perhaps a brilliant move which seems quite out of character for the Stupid Party.

Given that Obama and his minions are hinting that they will force carbon reductions and credits on Americans by EO without participation of Congress, this call for hearings allows the House to get out in front of Obama’s actions. Rather than reacting and playing catchup to Obama, these hearings will let the public know there is still a debate going on and the SCIENCE IS NOT SETTLED.

Throw in recent threats by Obama officials against ‘deniers’ and there should be plenty of theatrics making it difficult for the MSM to ignore.

More likely they’ve finally realized if they let Obama get away with his bureaucratic chicken coup their own power is gone. It’s awfully close to gone already: we’re on the brink of a dictatorship.

Hopefully they want to know the extent of the damage done by these agencies.

They certainly cannot concur with man-made change (warming) when we are having the coolest spring-Summer in memory. They can’t be that foolish - or can they??

I’ve been watching republican hearings on fast and furious, gun control, IRS, Benghazi, et-al.

I have no confidence that anything they do in hearings, is nothing more than smoke and mirrors, an elaborate dog and pony show.

these hearings will let the public know there is still a debate going on and the SCIENCE IS NOT SETTLED.

The only thing that the House could do that would be more direct is appeal to the Supreme Court to declare "legislation by executive order" unconstitutional, and void.

The climate scam has been discredited over and over.
The IPCC has been proven to issue political recommendations and predictions not based on the scientific studies on which they are presumably based.
The world's top climate science experts have fled the IPCC in droves, and the only "science" left there is political crap by full time hairdressers and actors.

So yes, identifying the waste and oppressive regulations based on total ignorance must be exposed and the supporters of the climate/carbon scam, both in and out of government, identified and humiliated.

Oh, come now. If they can ignore Benghazi, they won't have any trouble ignoring a Congressional hearing. I mean, I'm all in favor of it, but I wouldn't expect a single, solitary positive result.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls our climates.

3. The earth is a rock.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

I hear you but the fact is that Benghazi is not yet over, that witnesses were told to be quiet and are now coming out. The IRS scandal was broadcast and was minimized by the MSM but not before the public got enough sense that the IRS had become politicized.

With the climate gate hearings, there are now government employees, scientists and academics that have been told that ‘deniers’ will not be tolerated but that hasn’t gone over well.

A hearing from those inside the Obama sphere who have been told that ‘deniers’ are to be shunned should penetrate sufficiently through to the press who will try as they can to caricature such people as disgruntled and bought off by big oil blah blah blah. It will be enough to add yet another straw to the camel’s back for the upcoming 2014 elections.

People need to know there is dissent and Obama is trying to quash dissent.

I fear that the Repubs are not against it, they just want to change the results slightly
because as always they think that they can do the same thing better, as usual.

Fire Boehner NOW~!

I certainly don't disagree; just caution against hoping for too much.
