Sports used to be a place where gracious behavior could be learned. Sportsmanship was a byword.

There were always exceptions (Ty Cobb was not a nice man) but I think things really changed after Muhammad Ali. Trash culture has grown and grown and now sports seems to be avenue in which the worst possible behavior comes out of people.

If Obama had a son, he would riot and destroy buildings over a cup of noodles.

Was it Top Ramen noodels? Nobody get my Top Ramen noodles!

Seriously, this center had no means to deal with a teenage riot and they have a 144 bed facility of 16-19 year old boys from the criminal justice system? What kind of idiot, kumbaya thinking came up with that idea? Who ever it was just cost that facility 18 buildings and probably millions of dollars in total expense.

The facility is a 144-bed, moderate-risk program for males

If teens that destroy eighteen buildings and break each others bones over a cup of noodles are "moderate-risk", I'd hate to see the high-risk teens.

This happened 6 days ago and this is the 1st I’ve heard of it. I wonder if they will change the rules for staff being able to control the kids and protect themselves.

I didn’t know the Amish were so fond of cup of noodles.

So this wasn’t about the noodles, it was about Welshing on a bet?

"the Avon Park Youth Academy"

Kimball Cho (character on "The Mentalist") was [in the show] formerly a member of the gang known as the Avon Park Playboys - wonder if he spent any time there? :-)

The “teens are taught job skills...”? So beating the crap out of each other is “job skills”? All these programs should be stopped. Mainly, they create “jobs” for government “workers”. All you need is a big pile of construction concrete debris and sledgehammers. The Three S’s (Shower, Show up and Shut up) is all these criminals need to be taught.

Avon Park isn’t exactly a nice town .
Lot of drug addicts in that town who can’t behave so I don’t expect their kids to behave much better
