Flashback May 17, 2013: Foreign Policy magazine reports Obama rules out unilateral action in Syria as Russia ships advanced missiles to Assad

Top News: U.S. President Barack Obama again ruled out unilateral U.S. military action in Syria at a press conference with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday. "It's not going to be something that the United States does by itself. And I don't think anybody in the region would think that U.S. unilateral actions … would bring about a better outcome," the president said, promising to "keep increasing the pressure on the Assad regime and working with the Syrian opposition.”
Pentagon Crafts Limited Strike Plans for Syria

Today's "Top News" looks remarkably different: Pentagon Crafts Limited Strike Plans for Syria
A U.S. official said the Pentagon has crafted military options for limited U.S. air strikes in Syria that would send a message to the regime of President Bashar al Assad not to continue using chemical weapons against its civilians. There has been no presidential decision to use the military options, and U.S. intelligence continues to investigate an apparent large-scale chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime this week that may have killed as many as 1,000 civilians.

The official said the military options developed for consideration by the White House are limited in scope and would be intended to “deter or prevent” the Assad regime from the further use of chemical weapons. The options are not intended to remove the  Syrian president,  who has tenaciously hung on to power as Syria’s two-year civil war has raged on.

Traveling on a plane to Malaysia, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel confirmed to reporters that  Obama had asked the Pentagon to provide military options in Syria in light of the reported use of chemical weapons against civilians by the civilian government.

Prepare for war?

I can’t remember a time when we were NOT at war!

On and on and on and on and on and on and on....

Message sending. It hasn’t worked before and won’t work this time because no one believes Obama would follow it up with anything more serious.

.Obama.....”It's not going to be something that the United States does by itself. And I don't think anybody in the region would think that U.S. unilateral actions … would bring about a better outcome,” the president said, promising to “keep increasing the pressure on the Assad regime and working with the Syrian opposition.”.....

He's not going to do anything but maneuvers and stall.
Cameron petitioning the UN to give one more chance for Assad to step down. Similar to Saddam's warnings.

Doesn't look like much will be done anytime soon.

Assad should allow UN in to disarm and remove all chemical weapons in their control. That would really throw a monkey wrench in any grand plans of Obama to install the Islamists and Muslim Brotherhood in power in Syria.

Maybe the DOD wants to find the 500 ground to air missiles they lost during the Benghazi SNAFU.

Amateur hour at the Whit House continues...

God who wants to join the military the way the government sends soldiers to die in fruitless conflicts these days?

Fine with me, we don’t have a dog in that fight. We did not care a whit when the zulus or whatever were killing each other in Rhwanda or Uganda or the Congo or anywhere else there were genocides years ago so what is different here, except for the dope’s love of the Muslim brotherhood?

It appears a good time for a wag the dog moment.

Barry needs the diversion.

And since al Qaeda, the muslim brotherhood, and the mainstream media have assured us it was the Syrian regime that used the chemical weapons, how can we not trust that?

If we cannot believe al Qaeda, who can we believe? Well, ..... that’s how obamar see it.

I don’t trust al Qaeda, the muslim brotherhood, the mainstream media, john Mccain, president hussein obamar, the CIA, or any of them.

I am adding the CIA now because they’ve become way too political (LIBERAL) for me. They told George W. that WMDs were a “slam dunk” in Iraq. As soon as we went in, the CIA went SILENT. Didn’t stand behind the president. The CIA ...
(1) They wanted us drawn into that war for a reason or ....
(2) They’re all a bunch of incompetent boobs and we deserve a refund.
Either way, I don’t have use for them the NSA or our so-called intelligence community anymore.

Why not another vacation or bus tour?

Unless Syria does something so egregiously stupid that forces Russia to drop their support, this will ultimately end up as a chess match between Obama and Putin...

...which is to say, something along the lines of the Bad News Bears against the 1927 New York Yankees.

Right. I would really love it if Assad let the UN in to locate and remove all chemical and biological weapons—including those in the possession of the rebels—and then announce to the world that they came from Iraq and Saddam Hussein.

Obama doesn’t want to appear weak so he will launch the rockets—maybe with France and England support. It will be a one time shot but—I fear it could turn into something worse. We could stumble into something really bad. The Russians know he has no guts for a really dirty fight.

Obama has already made up his mind to get into Syria. The gas red line is the mushroom cloud fakeroo all over again. Obama wants to give impression that he is against involvement but was forced to get in. This is to placate his base.

Obama is going to take us into another Bush war to again satisfy internationalist war mongers as the nation’s economy sinks. The drumbeat for war is incessant. Obama won't resist. He is 'afraid' to go back on his word. McCain continues to needlessly whip him. God Help Us, politicians won’t.

Yes, and then he'll overreact and just haul off and nuke Damascus...

And our military officers will follow his orders.
