the Obama administration prepared for a possible military response by moving naval forces closer to Syria.
Obama discussed the situation in Syria by telephone with British Prime Minister David Cameron, the White House said. It was Obama's first known conversation with a foreign leader about Syria since the reports this week that hundreds of Syrians had been killed by the alleged chemical attack in a suburb of Damascus, the capital.

We're going in regardless of the truth. This war was preplanned 12 years ago. Next stop Iran . . .

For the first time in my life my heart desires to participate in an anti-war rally. But where are all the peaceniks that usually organize these things? Obama must have rounded them all up and shipped them off to colorado to get high for the duration of that US-Syrian war.

I don’t believe in fighting UN wars anyway but even without UN “approval” Obama will talk about bringing “order” and “peace” to the situation.
I’m on the stay out team for this one.

Is it just me or did the “Arab Spring” pretty much come to a screeching halt once the bodies started piling up in Syria? I think the citizens in other countries might have decided that turning their towns into rubble and dying under the treads of tanks doesn’t sound as appealing as it did a few years ago.
Maybe Obama thinks he can get it started again with a fresh infusion of American blood.

Some US ships will be lost to the supersonic anti-ship missiles that Syria has. They are wicked and countermeasures are iffy if many are launched at a ship at the same time.
The Russians made a good system when they made the Yakhont.
They are powered by a kerosine burning ramjet and travel at about 1800mph. Range is 300km+ They are in Latakia and possibly aboard some ships.

I wonder what would happen to the general staff officer that refused the illegal attack on a country that is not currently ins state of war against us; and with no legal authority from Congress.

Back in the late Fifties during the war game scenarios often acted out by our military and intelligence people, an incident like you describe in your first sentence always led to a nuclear exchange that unfolded either immediately or incrementally over a two week period.
This does not bode well.
