A few years ago, Jim Vich would not have dreamed of setting up an elaborate trap to catch wild hogs.

But that was before Oklahoma was invaded by a plague of pigs that devour crops, uproot pastures, destroy wildlife habitats, spread disease to humans and animals, kill trees and even knock over cemetery stones.

One of my father’s neighbors is called out by law enforcement to take care of some problem hogs, even some that got to a downtown Austin, TX parking lot. Some office people were trapped in their cars by the feral hogs. Austin PD cordoned off the area, and the neigbor arrived with his retriever dogs. The dogs distracted the hogs until commanded, and the hogs were shot. He gets paid some decent money for these calls.

***which he loads into a livestock trailer and takes home to sell to neighbors for meat.”***

Most wild pigs in Arkansas are infected with pseudorabies. They are shot and left to rot.

I shoot as many feral hogs in a year that my refrigerator can hold. They are as tasty as store-bought pork. In Texas, many are corn-fed anyway from all the deer feeders.

If you can put up with a pack-a-day and “I’ve earned a whole week of sick time, so I’m takin’ all next week off drunk.”

Got our share of those around here.

Not counting those of "disability" that are always off...and drunk / stoned.

My wife's boss owns about 15 mobile homes and rents them. Last count, all but 1 or 2 are occupied by renters that are on "disability". Half the damn county is on so called disability and the rest of us are getting raped with property tax increases "for the children" and the city workers that "haven't had a raise in 3 years", poor darlings.

>Land owners either don’t want the hunters or charge an arm and a leg to hunt pigs on their property.<

.
Ain’t that the truth.

>> “SO Photoshopped.” <<

Not so!

The trick is that the camera is quite close to the pig, which distorts the perspective.

Its the same trick that was done to Ann Colter’s feet for the magazine cover.

Any animal has a risk for parasite. Game animals have a greater risk than those raised in controled conditions.

Look at the organs and you can usually tell if the animal is safe.

Texas turns to Ted Nugent to control feral pig epidemic

In danger of being overrun by feral hogs, Texas is enlisting the help of rock ‘n’ roll
legend and noted hunter Ted Nugent.

As part of the Sportsman Channel’s “Aporkalypse: 2013” series — set for Aug. 25 and
described as “an entire night of wild hog stories and adventures” — Mr. Nugent will join
Brian “Pig Man” Quaca to shoot dead nearly 500 wild pigs on the farmlands of Texas.

The pig hunt will be part of an episode of Mr. Quaca’s show, “Pig Man: The Series.”
The duo will hunt from the air, flying above hog-infested fields in a helicopter.

While the term “Aporkalypse” may inspire a laugh, Texas officials say the problem of
feral pigs has reached critical mass.

Still a good-sized feral boar. I’d be out there with my Beowulf .50cal w/ .500gr HPs in 10-rnd mag; definitely not a pistol. If he did the shooting, he did himself a favor.
