Stray dogs are a common sight in Detroit. What about a big cat?
According to reports, many residents on the citys northeast side have seen what appears to be an exotic cat, perhaps as tall as four feet, roaming the streets.
Officials with the Michigan Humane Society said they have received several calls about the animal and workers are out in the city, trying to find the feline.
Antwaun Asberry, a 6-foot-5 Detroiter, told the Detroit Free Press the cats tail is longer than his arm.
I was like, what the (expletive)
I dont know what it is. I just want it gone, Asberry said. He walked like he aint scared of nothing
This thing is out here, bro.

No, it’s the size of a Toyota.
The cat I saw last night looked more like this:
I got this picture off a wild cat site, but even the author did not know what kind of cat this was.
You have a mystery on your hands! I was wondering if you might have seen a half-grown mountain lion, since the cubs have spots and lose them by adulthood, but 80 lbs. is the low end of the scale for an adult female, so probably not. Next I thought of a serval or an ocelot, but those cats run around 30-45 lbs.
The picture you posted looks a lot like a European wildcat, but that species is only the size of a housecat.
I agree. The guy would probably jump through the roof if a domestic cat snarled behind him. (Might be worth seeing, LOL).
I’m not sure of the weight.....it just looked ENORMOUS to me. (My puppy weighs 13 lbs, and this thing was HUGE compared to her.)
So, I could be wrong about the weight. I just know it was no domestic cat, and was very large.
Some of the posts upthread mentioned jaguar....they could be right. You are in the range. Jaguars are stocky and solid....100-250 lbs.
I thought The Big Cat Ernie Ladd played for Grambling before his rassling career.
Was he from Detroit?
Just had a thought about this.
If more border areas have been declared "federal lands" and therefore off-limits to law enforcement/Border Patrol (but effectively providing a highway for illegal alien traffic) then it would perhaps make them more inviting for wildlife traffic as well. Jaguars do include AZ as part of their northern range.
Don't know where Ernie originally hailed from. He also played for the Kansas City Chiefs prior to his rassling career.
The Savannah has been recognized by the Cat Association as a breed, it took 5 (if I remember correctly) generations to get a fertile male savannah. Like the mule, its a hybrid and are usually born sterile, Some work was done with a man that deals in genetics to actually get the Savannah.... If you ever find one, catch it quick, its worth some money. :O)
They got a photo of a cougar in the UP a couple years ago and I don’t doubt there are some down this way. People from outside Michigan don’t seem to understand how rural Michigan really is.
I live along the heaviest populated stretch of the state along the I-94 corridor. Where I live is a very small town and I hear coyotes 100 yards away pretty much every night and have photographed a feline print nearly 4 and a half inches across in the state land a few miles from here. There have also been confirmed black bears 20 miles away over in the Dexter Chelsea area.
Alvy Singer would not be impressed. (”Annie Hall” reference.)
That would be a good guess, lots of people keep them as pets.
“This thing is out here, bro.
Just dang! I am certain my new buddy Buford would drive this beast out of my yard, his territory. His hunt and defense drive is strong!
“Thats a possibility, too. Cheetahs, one reads, are trainable, while leopards arent.”
Nope, Windsor is well known for Cheetahs! (haha, male strip club humor....)
That went right over my head. I’m known for missing everyone’s jokes.
Details to be released later today.
The latest photos denote it maybe an African breed mixed with a domestic house cat.
Thx for the update!
