The timing was probably not a coincidence, falling as it did on two anniversaries. August 18, 2011, was when President Obama first demanded Syrian president Bashar al-Assad step aside, and August 20 last year was when Obama warned that the use of chemical weapons would change my calculus. It was a year to the day after Obamas warning that Assad launched what is to date the regimes largest chemical weapons attack. At least a thousand people are dead, likely more, in several Damascus suburbs and outlying towns. The video reports from Syria are chillingchildren foaming at the mouth, their unblinking eyes full of terror, their contorted limbs frozen like broken dolls.

Good afternoon.
Assad did not launch that attack
That's what the Russian foreign minister stated day before yesterday.
I'm sorry to say this, but at this point in time, I would believe Putin before I would believe 0bama. Sad.

I do not think the people murdered were necessarily the rebels ‘own people’. Many of the rebel factions aren’t even from Syria. Plus the main General that had defected has-if I remember correctly-been killed recently.

My response to txrangerette agrees with your assessment. I also added the point that the defecting General from Syria had been killed recently.

Our role is to stay out of the matter entirely.

That is the narrative the MSM is sticking to. Chemical weapons used, has to have been Assad. BS. I belive it was the Muslim Brotherhood.
French and Israeli sources are indicating that the attack was from one of the three chemical weapons depots in Syria. Satellites picked up a frenzy of activity at the base commanded by Assad's brother, approximately 1/2 hour before the attack. There seems to be very little doubt amongst intelligence agencies about who is responsible for this attack. We don't have video, so we can't know, conclusively, but all things are pointing at Assad. Some of the Israeli and French sources are saying it is the fulfilment of Assad's promise to use chemical weapons if/when outside countries became in his civil war. It is claimed that the attack was in response to the first group of American trained rebels entering the country. I don't think we should be involved in this mess, but it is hard now, that Obama has gone and shot of his mouth about red lines. Its almost like we don't have a choice, but we could limit our response to a dozen cruise missiles or something similar.

I hadn’t heard about the French and Israeli reports. I’ll avoid further comment until more information is out. I still maintain we need to stay out of this. I am not an isolationist. But if France and Israel have the intel, let the French act. Israel needs to hang back.
