That book somehow ended up in my house when I was a kid--I think because one of my older cousins had to read it for school and it got thrown in with a box of hand-me-down books.

I read it at age 13 or there abouts. The scenes were so horrifically graphic I still remember them to this day. As soon as I became more mature and aware of how awful the things portrayed in that book actually are, I threw it in the trash--where it belongs.

No kid should read that. Ever.

Another reason why "Common Core" is evil to the core. The word "common" is now a suspect word, hijacked by leftists, along with many other words such as "social", "justice", "gay", "rainbow", "fairness" etc.

Anyone who thinks that what people read, watch, listen to, view, etc has no effect on their minds and hearts, should look deeper. The more emotion driven the content, including and especially sexual and/or extremely graphic and bloody violence, the more of an impact it has on the psyche. Especially young people, as they are just forming their values and world view. The reason why ads and propaganda work is that human mind is influenced by what the sense organs take in. It's a simple law of nature. Of course not everyone is affected in precisely the same exact way, but everyone is affected.

Freepmail me if you want on/off any of my lists. I have been absent from pinging, anyone who reads these knows that. My apologies, there is too much to post, too much bad news to read, and so on. Alerts are welcome.

You are doing a great job, LJ, sending out ripples in the pond -- you are blessing many people who might have thought they were alone with their horror at what this nation has turned into, and causing them to think what they can do to push back. Many thanks!

The Muslim Brotherhood has been associated with Islam-biased K-12 textbooks identified by Citizens for National Security(CFNS) and Act for America. The textbooks in the CFNS study contained pro-Islamic misinformation, and material that provided negative misinformation about Israel, Judaism, and Christianity.

Thank you for your very kind words - I have been awol, but I have not given up! All alone tonight so I can ping a few more. I'm a small time writer of sorts, and usually expressing myself is not the hardest thing in the world. But trying to find the words describing the hell we are in right now - as a country, but engulfing the world too - is beyond me. Hieronymous Bosch could paint it, though.

It’s really atrocious. We read some books with sex and even with mild gay issues - what is that one in the boys’ school where the one guy kills himself? But to have this piece of junk as mandatory reading is sick. There are absolutely brilliant pieces of literature by black authors, and from the perspective of slaves or suffering people of all minorities. It’s good for high school students to be so enlightened. But by literature. Not junk.

Whatever did they give this hag the Nobel for?

Toni Morrison (born Chloe Anthony Wofford), is an American author, editor, and professor who won the 1993 Nobel Prize in Literature for being an author “who in novels characterized by visionary force and poetic import, gives life to an essential aspect of American reality.”
Her novels are known for their epic themes, vivid dialogue, and richly detailed African American characters; among the best known are her novels The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and Beloved, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1988. In 2001 she was named one of “The 30 Most Powerful Women in America” by Ladies’ Home Journal.

As I remember, she is a friend of Oprah’s and spoke at somebody’s inauguration. Was it Bill Clinton?

Her work sounds awful.

Another Reason to Homeschool

And.....

Another reason to abolish our nation’s godless, single-payer, and socialist entitlement schools.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Our son is three and I dread every day what he can potentially run into in school in the near future.

Don't send him.

Homeschool him.

There are plenty of resources and other homeschoolers available to help.

Once this stuff is in his mind, it ISN'T coming out. It will be with him FOREVER.

Do your child a favor and give him his childhood. Whatever he faces as an adult, at least you will know that he had some years of innocence.

Yep. Many Christians voted for Obama.

I don't believe many Christians voted for Obama. I believe many people who call themselves Christians who have traded the Gospel for a fake social justice gospel that can not save voted for Obama. Following a social justice gospel is following a fake gospel and that makes them fake Christians.
