Obama proposes bigger federal role in college funding

Saying the rising costs of college are punishing students who’ve played by the rules, President Obama on Thursday said he’ll ask the federal government to take a broader role in lowering tuition costs by rating schools based on their educational value, and trying to tie future taxpayer aid to how well schools do.

Mr. Obama, speaking at the State University of New York-Buffalo, said he’ll cap student loan repayments at 10 percent of their future paychecks, but will also take steps to punish students who are attending school on federal grants by doling out the money in chunks to make sure they stay in school.

“So some point, the government will run out of money, which means more and more costs are being loaded on to students and their families,” the president said.

Sound familiar?

rgaret Thatcher, in a television interview for Thames TV This Week on February 5, 1976. Prime Minister Thatcher said, "...and Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They [socialists] always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them."

Nathan Bedford second Maxim of American politics: Failed socialism rarely begets real reform but only more socialism.

The more one hears Obama talk about his solution for skyrocketing college tuition costs caused by government intervention in the market, the more one is reminded of Obamacare.

Because we all know that colleges just suffer from a lack of funding!

So what is so complicated about college costs (X) and one must pay (X) to go?

I pay for my kids college and grad schools. I don't expect my neighbors and coworkers to do it for us!

The more government is involved, the higher the costs will be, and the greater the amount of socialist content that will be injected into the curriculum.

Because the costs will be higher, the graduates will spend years in indentured servitude, and one of the prime ways to reduce that will be to work in government-sponsored jobs.

It’s a huge CF for the taxpayer, who will fund all of this.

A bigger role than the takeover of the student loan system? No thanks.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the government (on its way out of the business of financial aid) tying student loans to majors of study and capping the number of, say, theater majors getting government loans nationwide (zero would be a good number for theater majors, but let’s say ten). If a college wants to keep its theater major, it will chase after those top ten theater majors and improve its offerings, ultimately having to put up its own money to offer financial aid and keep enrollment up. Some majors would quite deservedly go away in many schools and some colleges would specialize and become magnets. That is, if you could trust the department of education to administer the system effectively and in the best interests of the nation’s future, which you cannot.

So, I can borrow $250,000 to get a PhD in basket weaving and party most of the time, and only have to pay 10% of my part-time paycheck from McDonalds?

Where do I sign up?

And guess which schools would get the higher rating and additional funding? You can bet schools in Texas wouldn’t, or Oklahoma, or any other conservative States. This is the message a GOP candidate needs to put out there: every single “right” the left keeps throwing in your face is being given to someone who doesn’t want to work but wants YOU to pay for. You pay for your phone, they get one for free. You pay your rent or mortgage, they get it either free or get assistance. You pay for your utilities, they get assistence. You pay for your healthcare, they get it for free. Your child works to go to college, they get it for free. When do you finally realize you are paying for others to have what you struggle to have?

The problem now with the cost of educating our young is Government! The other problem are the activists who by the grace of Affirmative Action, crowd out the more qualified teachers...so why send your child to a college where freedom of hiring the best is so restrictive.

It's what I have done and accomplished along with my children. Nobody can claim my kids didn't start up some successful business without government help. Remember that bullcrap odingo was wordsmithing last year?

So what if I'm a sucker and paying for the rest too? My choices to make.

The best graduation present you can give your child upon college graduation is a loan free starting point to go conquer the world.

It’s impolite to post without reading the article, I know. But this turd-world Dicktator wannabe is such a moron, let me guess: he wants the government to “step in” and make a college education more affordable. Am I right? Well, he’s in the process of doing that with healthcare so I figured he’d take that successful formula and apply it colleges.
