Citing ObamaCare as a reason, the the University of Virginia has announced that spouses of University employees who have access to health insurance through their own jobs will no longer be eligible for health insurance coverage.
In its announcement, President Obama's healthcare plan is specifically mentioned by UVa as a reason for the rising costs that forced the university to drop working spouses. ObamaCare is expected to add $7 million to the university's health care costs.
UVa was also a public supporter of ObamaCare:
Working spouse provision: Starting Jan. 1, spouses who have access to coverage through their own employer will no longer be eligible for coverage under U.Va.s plan. Spouses who do not have coverage elsewhere can remain on the employees plan, and coverage of children is not affected. ...
Provisions of the federal Affordable Care Act are projected to add $7.3 million to the cost of the University health plan in 2014 alone. Federal health care reform will create new costs related to the individual mandate that requires all Americans to have health care coverage (or pay a penalty).

Wow. There goes a big reason for “Gay Marriage” - the queers were trying to get their “spouses” on these Cadillac insurance policies that Universities and others were offering.
To err is human. But to really FUBAR requires government intervention.
FUBO!!
My mailman said that because my spouse has her own car I can not loger buy the car insurance plan I want
Wow - I can see where it would be cool to have all kind of other people deciding what insurance I need
I don’t know much about this admittedly.
But tell me, doesn’t this mean that these people will have to pay for two insurance policies instead of one?
UPS did this the other day, Delta is threatening to do this, how many others will pass this around?
It would seem that in some case the people whose wives can get insurance from their own employers would perhaps be better off to just quit working. Paying for two costly insurance policies in a family is going to be rough.
This Obamacare BS is starting to get rough.
Wow! Never thought of that! That’s funny! Another point is the spouse will probably pay a higher premium with a separate insurance carrier. What about the 25 year old kids working part time and living at home? Which parent’s policy will they be on?
The Affordable Care Act certainly achieved its goal of eliminating affordable care.
They can now claim victory in the War on Affordable Care.
Well, he sure is transforming America.
Next, the world.
Oh wait..
Arab Spring uhhh Summer Blisters
I feel sorry for the UVA employees who did not vote for 0bama. Those who did vote for 0bama got what they asked for.
I don’t know much about politics at the University of Virginia, but most of academia happily did their part to put the arrogant racist commie poser in office - twice.
I would be surprised if the majority at this university are any different.
So I say: “Reap what you sowed.”
It always bother me the Liberal hypocrisy. Whenever they talk about how rich should pay more, ITS ALWAYS MEANS EVERYONE ELSE but themselves

I hate Obamacare as much as the other person, but I honestly don’t know what the problem is here. Why should any company provide spousal benefits to someone who has benefits available from another job or source? Microsoft did this several years ago as a cost cutting measure before Obama was even elected. They were paying millions for non-employees who had benefits available at their current job.
First UPS, now UVA changes the health care it provides to employees due to 0bamacare mandates. As a person pointed out to me, 0bama said “your” i.e. individual, not “your spouses” health care.
This is sweet.
While the density of libs in Charlottesville/Albemarle County isn’t as high as in other areas of the Commonwealth (e.g., Northern Virginia), UVA profs and students are foursquare for Obama. They’re too self-centered to see the irony, though.
“I feel sorry for the UVA employees who did not vote for 0bama. “
Both of them.
What he said.
“And this is why democrats wanted it because they think it will lead to single payer/socialized medicine. “
The reality is that a large number of liberals are very simplistic in their world view, and were clueless about what it was they were trying to do with health care. To them, the fact that supporting it made them ‘progressive’, and ‘European-like’ was a big draw. I wish it wasn’t that ridiculous, but it actually is.
You mean all 4 of them - forgotten man?
The University System of Ga just did the same thing. It covers 31 colleges and universities in the state of Ga.
Some more “change”
