"I reported that Windows 8 was dangerous. Some wrote to argue I was wrong. I wrote why NASA announced it was dumping Windows 8 and that even Skype should not be used. Microsoft has been criticized for the Prism affair."
"Now appears that Windows 8 is especially dangerous. The German government warns against Microsoft program because it has the ability to control the hardware and software of the computer. The NSA can enter you computer remotely. Has Microsoft created economic suicide?"

DOS isn’t done until Lotus won’t run.
Some things never change.
Is that a rhetorical question? Do you understand the basics of a TPM? The TPM hash is generated when the TPM is first powered on. It is unique to the hardware configuration of the machine. Meaning the algorithm generated is like a fingerprint. It’s unique to the machine. The likelihood of the TPM hash being identical to another system, even one that is built identical to another, is infinitesimal.
There’s no root check-in. It’s not like a CA chain. The TPM IS the CA. It is the top-level certification authority for the machine. Hence the name Trusted Platform Module. It’s proof of the existence of the machine based on its unique fingerprint. The private key is generated by the newly-created hash, stored on the TPM, and it’s not even accessible by the owner.
So a 1024-bit hash, salted with whatever algorithm the manufacturer chooses, followed by a 1024-bit or greater private key means its basically inviolable. Even with the salt algorithm, the private key cannot be readily decrypted.
By the time XP dies, perhaps there will be OSX equivalents of my windows only software.
One caution on XP: the very kernel of the OS is no longer secure. Microsoft has literally patched the kernel to the point that any further patching could cause the system to stop booting. They’re dedicating almost no support to the OS for any future development.
At least, do yourself a favor and download Ubuntu Linux. It’s incredibly user friendly and more secure than XP ever was. Plus, it’s free.
“Which machines are those (with TPM installed)?”
Pretty much every 64-bit laptop in the USA.
Can I run my CAD programs (which were written for windows) on Linux?
bump for later
Dell is proving to be part of the problem. I wouldn’t trust any major players any more than I could get a job working for one of them. Thawte, Verisign, Entrust, StartCom: they’re major players in encryption and trustworthy. Intel, Dell, HP, Microsoft, even Apple are in it for themselves. They’ll make a deal with the devil if it means they can continue to do business in the US. If that means building backdoors for the NSA, they’ll help any way they can.
Of course about 37% of PC's on Earth still use Windpws XP.
Possibly. There’s a Windows emulator for Linux called Wine. It runs a lot, even older games. If it runs in XP, it’ll likely run in Wine. If anything, create a new Parallels desktop, throw Ubuntu on there and see how it runs for you.

USNF '97 was my FAVORITE game
Thanks
I’d need Parallels to run Ubuntu?
Sorry, got my terminology mixed up. You could dual boot it, I’d imagine. I’m not an Apple technophile.
Is that an F8U-2N?
*shrug* I’ll give it a try!
It’s an F-8, that is all I remember from the game.
I loved that game.
Everything from F-4’s to F-22’s, even Harriers and A-1’s.
A-10’s
