Bradley Manning plans to live as a woman named Chelsea and wants to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible, the soldier said Thursday, a day after being sentenced to 35 years in prison for sending classified material to WikiLeaks.
Manning announced the decision in a written statement provided to NBC's "Today" show, asking supporters to refer to him by his new name and the feminine pronoun. The statement was signed "Chelsea E. Manning."
"As I transition into this next phase of my life, I want everyone to know the real me. I am Chelsea Manning. I am a female. Given the way that I feel, and have felt since childhood, I want to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible," the statement read.
Manning's defense attorney David Coombs told "Today" in an interview that he is hoping officials at the military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., will accommodate Manning's request for hormone therapy.
"If Fort Leavenworth does not, then I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure they are forced to do so," Coombs said.

I honestly don’t give a rip if he takes hormone therapy and exits prison in 35 years as a woman. However, he can find his own way of paying for this, including all expenses involved with any additional security, transportation, or accommodations.
Because gays have told us that this isn’t a disease. It is who they are - great, you go ahead and be that, but since it is not a disease, not one thin dime of taxpayer funds needs to be expended to treat it.
And if it suddenly becomes a disease so that it is demanded that the taxpayers pay for it, then actually treat the disease rather than accommodate the disease by following his wishes.
Most of these demands go away once it is determined that it is a vanity treatment and the patient 100% on the hook for paying for all of it.

That was how the Navy would have handled it during the Cold War. As soon as he exposed himself as a faggot, he would have been out of the Navy very quickly.
Then, he would not have ever got even a confidential clearance let alone a top secret. He would have flunked any simple back ground check.
