There are also worries about the spent nuclear fuel rods that are being cooled and stored in water pools on site. Mycle Schneider says these contain far more radioactive caesium than was emitted during the explosion at Chernobyl.

"There is absolutely no guarantee that there isn't a crack in the walls of the spent fuel pools. If salt water gets in, the steel bars would be corroded. It would basically explode the walls, and you cannot see that; you can't get close enough to the pools," he said.

One of my best friends here is a nuclear physicist. I am going to be meeting him for drinks in Shinjuku tonight. He promised to tell me if it was time to start getting worried.

Wake up, folks.
The information has been out there for anyone who could tear themselves away from ‘Idol” or “Dancing With...” - even for Freepers - ALWAYS been out there.

It seems even Freepers tend to sit back and wait for someone else to do something - FR has become largely just a place to enjoy the easy office chair and opine. The ‘active’ Freepers of ole that used to take action AND get things done - (remember the ‘fake but true” Dan RAther hub bub? Remember Terri Schiavo? And there were others.) Where now are the Freepers that will crash the emails of their reps to demand action on crucial issues? We've become a lazy citizenry, and Freepers - full of wind but no action. WE get the gov’t we deserve?

Very discouraging - ARe any of you "old" Fighting Freepers lurking?
