State agency's website offers Klingon translation
Even bureaucracy can't be satirized these days
(MCT) If you wanted to ask an Illinois Department of Employment Security professional how to appeal a denied claim in Klingon you would say: vaj tem DoQ, chay' Qu' appeal?
That means, if my claim is denied, how do I appeal?
You can learn how to ask many questions in Klingon an unofficial language created for humanoid characters in the "Star Trek" television series and movies on the IDES website. The site offers translations via Microsoft Translator. The current options are Spanish, Polish, Simplified Chinese, Russian and Klingon.
The Klingon translation started out as a promotion for the "Star Trek Into Darkness" movie that premiered in May. It has remained long after the movie release because the department received positive feedback from some who found it humorous. It also has managed to draw more traffic to the department's website, spokesman Greg Rivara said. "We kept it up because every now and then, people notice it, and whenever people are drawn to our website to see the benefits that we offer, that's a good thing," Rivara said.
The unique language doesn't cost the department any money: Rivara said the Microsoft translation service is free. While the 280 or so pages on the department's website can be automatically translated, department staff members review each page in each language for accuracy and nuance. The department did not take time to review Klingon so some words, like "appeal" and "unemployment," don't translate on the site.
"To the best of my knowledge, we don't have any certified Klingon translators on staff," Rivara said.

I’m gobsmacked. It’s true.
It looks like a feature of Microsoft Translator.
Klaatu barada nikto...
How do you say “Great scott!” ini Klingon?
(Sorry, couldn’t resist after seeing that pic...)
OMG ROFL ROFL I thought this was satire, but it isn’t. This is proof how liberals can be stupid.
With unemployment here between nine and ten percent, I'd figure the site already gets plenty of traffic.

Yavool!
Though you apparently have to have a font that supports it. (Used bing to translate.)
I guess they want the website to be friendly for illegal ALIENS, not just Mexicans!
Nah, this is just proof that nerds have a sense of humor. Hiding Easter Eggs like this has a long tradition in technology.
True Fact®
In the meantime, I am fighting for my 90 year old Dad who just lost his job! The idiots are fighting him on unemployment, can you imagine?? The man has worked his entire freakin life. Words couldn’t express my immense anger at all the freaks running this state.
“Words couldnt express my immense anger...”
Holy hell, words can’t express my surprise that he’s still workin!
I know, I pray I inherited his genes! He is amazing, 90 and still living on is own, driving and has ALL his marbles. He puts men half his age to shame.
I’d rather have it in Klingon than all those other languages. If you want govt unemployment aid, first learn English.
OK. Wwwwhhhaaaat dooeesss aaaa yyyeeeellllowwww lllliiight mmmeeeannn?
