My piece here last week declaring that Americas desire to be governed by family cultures, particularly those from Massachusetts and New York, represents in all but name a return to monarchy brought some interesting responses.
Responses were widespread and there were interesting parallel events: Donna Brazile said a HIllary Clinton nomination would be a coronation like it was a good thing. James Taranto at The Wall Street Journal ran a piece titled Queen Hillary. New York Times correspondent Timothy Egan suggested Presidents should vacation outside their political comfort zones.
I claimed that a royal political family giving of a family pet to a president was at once patronizing and demeaning. It treated him like a minor or external member of the family political cult (a pet). And by accepting the animal, the president acknowledged himself to be a willing agent of the family cult. And guess what? They went out and got President Obama a new doggie, one from Michigan.
Having the distinguished political god king marry you, for instance, has the same effect. As I recall, Jefferson left that stuff up to the rabbis and preachers. Anthony Weiner was conspicuously married by Bill Clinton, which suggests that the Clinton cult was more than a family or even a fraternal bonding of friends (like the mafia), it is a kind of secular religion, i.e., a family cult, and Bill is the priest. (But will Bill perform the bris?)
This, in our time, represents de facto descent into monarchy and political cultism. It is the same with those Republicans who can think only of Jeb (and Chris Christie, the family pet solicited by Barbara Bush, other Bushes and Kissinger against Romney). This is not something that is happening to America but has already happened.....

I have a response to people that want to be ruled by the Bush or Clinton families. I flushed it already.
No more Clintons!
No more Bushes!
Amen. No more.
Walter Williams/Thomas Sowell. There’s my dream ticket.
No more Kennedys!
Jeb is likely the worst of the Shrubs. Each one is worse than the one before.
Good catch.
IRMA-TIME!!!
Bump to read later...
the nutty stuff going on in Maine is fascinating. Some of it is blatant idiocy, but fascinating, none-the-less.
Stuff goes on in Maine that cannot happen in other states.
I wish i lived there ... except for the summer black flies and the endless winters.
Got that right.
“I wish i lived there ... except for the summer black flies and the endless winters.”
And the taxes are thru the roof. And they tax pensions. None of my friends that have land there will ever move there because their pensions would be taxed, even though they never worked a day in Maine. Pass.
OTOH, Maine gets Patriot’s Day off (a relic from being part of MA), so one gains an extra day to mail out your taxes.
I was at Kennebunk Beach for the first time ever on Friday - beautiful!
Oh, I don’t know how to blog. If I did, I would have a kinky sex blog.
I told you I’m done with politics. I’m on here for sports, jokes, movie talk and slut stories.
No more Obamas
You mean the RNC resignations?
On the other hand, The Archduke Ferdinand took a working vacation to Sarajevo because his wife was continually snubbed by the royals of his family. He sought his comfort zone, and there, as he reviewed the Austrio-Hungarian army he was sure to find it.
Until he and his wife were both assassinated.
Do we have a slut story ping list? That would be an excellent list!
Neither one will ever get my vote!
HA! I was thinking mostly of the stories about female teachers that get cuffed for banging their students.
It would make a great ping list though, you’re right!

Chairman resigned this spring after only 6 months.
Penobscot COunty Committee seemed to have stolen the vote and
... still uproar over the RNC delegates last August getting ejected. With the permission of a Maine National Committeewoman.
etc.
I guess the resignations are the biggest deal now. BUt this tuff reverberates down into the town grassroots and creates tremendous cynicism and bitterness.
D’Amboise and company seem to be going 3rd party.
