Ted Cruz could beat Hillary

He may be a right-wing nut, but the Texas senator can beat a Democrat in a general election. Here's why

There’s been some more buzz this week about Ted Cruz’s presidential prospects. The demagoguing senator took his first trip to Iowa just six months after being sworn in to office, and he’s pretty clearly reaching for the White House. Early reports are that it’s going well. And Rich Yeselson wrote a high-profile (and fascinating) essay arguing that, basically, Cruz is perfectly positioned for reaching the top of the Republican ticket.

The focus of this piece is on Cruz’s general election viability. When it comes to the primary, I’m not going to start handicapping the viable candidates seeking the Republican nomination yet; I’ll only say that I don’t see any reason not to include Cruz in that group, as of now. Viable candidates have conventional credentials and are in the mainstream of their party on questions of public policy. Cruz, from what we know now, qualifies. With four years in elected office by January 2017, he’ll be in a similar boat with Barack Obama (who, granted, had held lower office as well) and Mitt Romney (who at least had four full years before his campaign began). And while Cruz surely is planted at an edge of the Republican mainstream, I don’t see any reason, so far, to believe he’s close to falling off that edge. Whether or not Yeselson is correct that Cruz is a particularly strong candidate, it’s certainly very possible to see him nominated.

But what about the general election? Could he actually win?

What I hear from many liberals about Cruz’s chances are two things. One is just disbelief: Republicans wouldn’t really do something like nominate Cruz, would they? The key is that Ted Cruz isn’t Herman Cain or even Michele Bachmann; he’s a United States senator, and that counts for something (that is, conventional credentials count for something) in presidential elections. So, yes, they really could do something like that.

The other thing I hear, however, is perhaps even more wrong. Some liberals react by actively rooting for Cruz. The theory? The nuttier the nominee, the worse the chances of Republicans retaking the White House. Indeed, in conversation I’ve heard all sorts of justifications: Cruz couldn’t possibly win Florida! Therefore, he couldn’t win the White House!

Don’t listen to it.

If you acknowledge that Cruz was born in Canada then how can he be a ‘Natural Born Citizen’ like the Constitution requires?

He has an American birth certificate. The Canadian one is complimentary.

Cruz has a Canadian birth certificate. ‘Nuff said.

Please post a link that provides the proof that Ted Cruz has in his possession an actual Canadian Birth Certificate.

“What part of the Canadian government bestowed this on him”

That would be the Province of Alberta that issued his birth certificate.

We need to get Dan Ackroyd to stand up next to him and do a “Blues Brothers” redux - He looks quite a bit like John Belushi...I’m all in for Ted Cruz - he’s the goods!

I’m telling you - having a “fun” media hype like “Oh he looks like John Belushi” would skyrocket him up in places - he needs to be seen on SNL with Dan Ackroyd - come on let’s work this ok? Get the jump on the old GOP elitists and get this guy out of the gate firing on all guns!

Please provide the relevant section of the US Constitution that proves your point?

If you are unable to do that, please provide the relevant US Law passed by Congress and signed by a US President that provides the necessary justification for your position.

Barring that, please provide the relevant US Supreme Court case ruling that provides the necessary justification for your position.

Sounds good to me. Sarah will not be running for President so who can carry the stick for real conservatives. Well none other Ted Cruz. I would vote for him. We all know liberals are scared of Ted Cruz simply because he reminds them of great patriot Joe McCarthy who has a uncanny resembles of him. =)

Maybe this sounds far fetch but it looks like God is putting his chess pieces down. Little by Little we are gradually starting to see a new generation of patriotic politicians taking its place. Something is coming down the pike for this nation but I truly believe God will gradually place those who will defend this (once) great nation.

If Cruz turned up with a foreign passport..like Barry..then I would be worried, but as it is, it is ok. Both my sons were born overseas and had claims on foreign citizenship, but never took it up..and they are still qualified to be Pres.

Lefties are notoriously thin-skinned and Sen. Cruz has show a remarkable talent for making them come to a boil and say stupid things. Sen. Fineswine still has an arched back and erect neck hairs over their encounter.

Cruz himself vouched for the authenticity of the document:
From that same article:
But Canadian lawyers told the Morning News that Cruz’s birth in Canada also instantly conferred upon him Canadian citizenship, though a spokeswoman for Cruz said he was not aware of having dual citizenship.
So, to be clear, Senator Cruz was not aware that he was a dual citizen with Canadian citizenship, it was (as the article clearly states) inferred to him upon his birth in Canada. Futhermore, upon learning of this dual citizenship, he very quickly and clearly stated he would renounce that citizenship, So, What's your beef again against Senator Cruz?

Assuming your thesis to even be correct -- something I do not stipulate -- I *definitely* would replace a Kenyan with a Canadian.

There's a lot more that we have in common with Canada then we have in common with Kenya.

So vote for Hillary then.

New tag line as seen on Fox this morning:

Ignore all the facts you want, and spin it however you want to, Senator Cruz, with the possible exception of Governor Palin, is the best possible POTUS candidate right now. Far outstripping Rand Paul with his Amnesty plan.
