LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles County Coroner Tuesday classified journalist Michael Hastings’ death as accidental.
Hastings, 33, died in the early morning hours of June 20 when his Mercedes crashed into a tree at a high rate of speed in Hancock Park.
The coroner listed traumatic injuries sustained in the accident as his cause of death.
Toxicology tests also discovered that a “small amount of Methamphetamine and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was detected. Levels indicate prior, but not recent usage,” the report stated.
Hastings, a contributing editor at Rolling Stone, won a George Polk Award for magazine reporting for his cover article “The Runaway General” in 2010.
At the time of his death, the award-winning writer believed he was being investigated by the FBI.

So I guess we should believe that the meth caused Michael Hastings’ body to undergo a spontaneous explosion?
If they can put in a car bomb, they surely can find some meth and THC for the blood and tissue sample. Don’t hold your breath for an independent autopsy; it’s probably too late now anyways because of evidence tampering.

All it took was a bomb or two(there were apparently two or even three explosions including the gas tank). He didn’t hit the palm tree very hard.

Some “mystery commenters” kept telling me Highland wouldn’t be used when traveling to LAX.
They started naming every paved surface on earth, EXCEPT Highland, as the “best route” to LAX.
I think Hastings was rushing (thru red lights) toward LAX at 4:30am to catch an early flight around 6/7am, and do exactly what he said in his emails: “Go off the radar awhile.”
He’d spoken to Wikileaks hours prior, so perhaps he was heading to Europe.
In related story, the coroner “fell down a flight of stairs” yesterday but refused first aid.
So he did crash the car on his own, and the bombs went off?

I’ve driven from that specific Shakey’s on Sta Monica using Orange, then you can link into Highland or either La Brea. But Highland is mostly used by Super Shuttle to head to LAX (I know, I’ve used it) and I also prefer the Highland route as most of my flights are early flights.

No one seemed to notice that the tree appeared undamaged - at least not to the level you would expect for a palm tree.

In the video it appears there was a small blast then a bigger one then the gas tank went. It happens beyond the range of the camera but you can see the flashes. I d idn’t think to save the URL of it.
Nice to see that the coroner has developed a survival instinct.
