In a warren of offices at a former bank building near Madison Square Garden, dozens of journalists are at work on gleaming new electronic equipment, ready to turn their test runs of Al-Jazeera America into the real thing.
The Qatar-based news organization will finally establish a firm foothold on American television Tuesday after a decade of trying. At 3 p.m. EDT, Al Gore's former Current TV will turn out the lights in more than 45 million TV homes, replaced by the new U.S. affiliate of Al-Jazeera.
In Houston, the network will launch on 4DTV (Channel W5261), AT&T U-verse (Channel 189), Comcast (Channel 107), DirecTV (Channel 358), Dish Network (Channel 215) and Wavevision XDTV (Channel 161).
The network has hired many veterans of U.S. television, including John Seigenthaler, Joie Chen, Antonio Mora and Sheila MacVicar, and is promising a meaty diet of news that it believes will contrast with the opinionated talk that dominates American news networks.

Just checked on Comcast here in suburban Richmond VA...seems like we, too, have been blessed to have Al Jazeera in our line-up. They are running Current programming up until 3:00 Eastern and then Al Jazeera programming begins. They will probably be running Obamacare public service ads until they get the Ginko knife account...expecting a head-rolling good time in any case.
Cancel your cable; yes, your life will improve.
“Filthy Kuffar!! Welcome to Al-Jazeera News! Death to America!!!”
I second that. There's no need for cable with tons of quality content on Netflix, hulu, and torrents. There's also the YouTube video downloader addon for Firefox. Be your own program director.
Everyone: A cable subscription bundles all the leftist crap in with the handful of channels you want to watch. With cable bundles, you pay for the liberalism, even if you. Seriously, how many people would pay for MSNBC or CNN in an a-la-carte lineup?
Is that a still from their new reality show :”Behead the infidel”?

Democracy Now is a radio show that runs on a gazillion little lefty college FM stations. They just stuck a camera in front of whats-her-name and put the feed on the dish.
and rake in federal public broadcasting dollars
I said to myself I would be open minded and expose myself to the new news channel. The first hour of news didn’t really send up a big red flag but now in the second hour they are shoving, not pushing, shoving climate change and demonizing anyone who doesn’t accept it. I hope that little jerk, who made it into the office to sit with the host, walked to the station. What a thing to air. They are probably dead to me now. I will watch for the next several hours but I may not be able to overcome my prejudice.
I don’t think they wanted me as a viewer anyway.
Just checked my DirecTV “channel search”, unfortunately there it was at ch. 358....tuned over (2:15pm PDT) and it is a “global warming” party! I want “ala carte” DirecTV!!!! See also: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3053902/posts
FU Algore.
Actually that is not entirely true. Industry insiders will tell you that channels like CCTV4, RT America are being provided to cable companies as “free-to-air” channels. That is, they’re not asking for any compensation from satellite and cable providers, just a place on the dial.
Al-Jazeera English was “free-to-air” but now that Al-Jazeera America is on the air, they’re hoping to gain advertisers.
From a purely business standpoint, they don’t need to have advertisers. Their day-to-day operations are funded by the Qatari oil sheiks.
