It would be interesting to see the number of grads of any profession, that were sorry for their chosen major.

That could depend on the major. I cannot imagine that there is much of a career in philosophy, but there is a lot of opportunity for a science major.

Below are the top five most popular majors of college graduates(no order):

1. Journalism/Communication
2. Philosophy
3. Sociology/Social Work
4. Education
5. Art

The five least popular majors of college graduates.

1. Econ
2. Accounting
3. Finance
4. Math
5. Engineering

The most job opportunities are in the latter group of majors and the least amount of jobs is the former.

Coincidentally, the highest GPA's are found in the former group.

Colleges are using grade inflation to keep students, who would otherwise washout, in school. I suspect that many Journalism students are realizing they are a dime a dozen chasing very few jobs.

The philosophy majors I have known had no difficulty getting good employment. Besides those who became teachers, library scientists and priests, several went on to become programmers, another went to get a Masters at U of Chicago and ran some great number on financial exchanges for a number of years, etc.

If you choose a good college, good courses with good teachers, and work diligently, it can be more than just a vocational school. It can give you additional tools that can help in every aspect of life, not just career.
