TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Gov. Chris Christie plans to sign a bill Monday barring licensed therapists from trying to turn gay teenagers straight, making New Jersey the second state to ban so-called conversion therapy, along with California.
The bill passed both houses of the New Jersey Legislature with bipartisan support in June. Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who sponsored the bill and is openly gay, described the therapy as "an insidious form of child abuse."
Gay activists pushing the ban were uncertain what Christie would do.
In a signing note accompanying the bill that will be made public Monday, Christie said he believes people are born gay and that homosexuality is not a sin. That view is inconsistent with his Catholic faith.
The Republican governor also said the health risks of trying to change a child's sexual orientation, as identified by the American Psychological Association, outweigh concerns over the government setting limits on parental choice.
"Government should tread carefully into this area," he said in the signing note, which was obtained by The Associated Press, "and I do so here reluctantly."

and if the teenager seeks it on his own?
And so another slap in the face by the GOP lands across the collective conservative face. Another flat violation of the platform.
Remember this too folks when FR’s GOP sycophants tell you third partys are bad. Remember it when they tell you the dems are worse.
How is it worse to do the same thing time and again?
You will be gay whether you want to be or not!
...but sensitivity training will be mandatory for anyone that thinks homosexuality is wrong.
Oh and remember Rand Paul saying the GOP had room for this guy just this weekend.
The “scientists” have determined this to be harmful, such that the state should make it illegal to “protect” children.
But the scientists also determined its ok for the children to be copulating with each other’s rectums, this being natural and regardless of health risks.
Well, Krispy ... THAT’LL sure help with the base. < /s>
And remember it when they tell you that YOUR conservative vote is the reason we’re in the mess we’re in now. Not their enabling vote that makes politicians like Chris Christie viable national candidates.
Yes, his DEM base!!!
At some point we have to purge these idiots. Let them go to a moderate site that best fits their beliefs. Because supporting this crap is an front to FR’s entire purpose.
Then let them try winning with their moderate libs on their own. Without conservatives. We have to stand for something folks.
But it’s perfectly fine for “therapists” to tell them that they really are gay—and coming out will solve all their problems.
This really does go to show one what lengths unprincipled, soulless, immoral people will go to in order to achieve and maintain power. There isn’t anything in Mr. Christie’s portfolio of principles that I’d support. I certainly hope he’s doing this for his own satisfaction/belief, or maybe even to cement his hold on New Jersey - his constituents deserve what they vote for. But if he thinks this act is a stepping stone to national prominence, he’s badly mistaken.
There is no scenario, even against Hillary as the possible winner that would make me cast a vote for him. I’ll sit it out if it comes to that. NO MORE.

So it will be against law the to the to give medical/mental help to a mentally ill person? We are losing America.
People in NJ will be thrilled to learn that their governor has declared “gay” normal and “not a sin”. He may win 90 percent now.
The whole gay thing has been around since the dawn of time. It should not be glorified, allowed to marry, or shown for public viewing. Just leave those people alone to do what they want in private...one would think that is enough.
but NO, that is not good enough. they have to plaster it all over the media, want marriage and (gag)children, and NOW? make it illegal for those who want to become normal, to become normal.
Incrementalism by the left is insidious.
"NJ governor to sign ban on gay conversion therapy"

I have absolutely no desire to be converted to gay. I'm perfectly happy as an straight guy, I still enjoy the "scenery" when I go down to the boardwalk for my daily 5K... so I really don't care....
(Well, that's the way the AP headline reads ....)
Same goes for the right. Anyone thing there will be party backlash? Anyone thing even a quarter of the GOP will condemn and call on him to reverse course?
And so another in a long line of GOP leftist moves will become an incriment.
