The daytime shooting took place in front of Badd Boyz Hair Salon and Barbering in the 1700 block of Telegraph Avenue.

Proponents hope that transforming one block of Telegraph Avenue at Broadway into a pocket park with weekly entertainment will bring a bit of Oakland's vibrant Uptown Arts District closer to the grittier city center.
But some property owners aren't yet on board. They fear that the plaza will disrupt traffic flow and be more popular with homeless people than hipsters.
Yes, a large city should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time, but when a large city can't walk straight and just uses the gum to muck things up (occupying one block is not a "pocket park" or whatever pretentious euphemism is official these days), something's rather wrong.

The woman's boyfriend chased the thief and was able to get the purse back, but the thief soon returned on a bicycle with a gun, police said.
Oakland's trying hard to promote bicycling! Glad to see something paying off.

A story reporting 12 people killed doesn’t really tell much if it was a good thing or not. How many were decent God-fearing citizens that should be grieved for? How many were garbage people that should put a very slight smile on our faces by knowing they’re removed from society?
This is lazy journalism that never gives us the breakdown.
